2009 FALL and HOLIDAY SHADES and HUES

The color palette for 2009 is very diverse and broad in the spectrum. They are unique to say the least and very distinct from the past years.  The autumn of past years was surpassed by current economic conditions thus fundamental basics and lots of creativity was incorporated thus resulted in more vibrant shades.  From hair to accessories, make-up to wardrobe must haves, fashion gurus have predicted that refinement and femininity will prevail, adding creativity and of course sensuality that will finish up a real “put together” on a budget.  Let’s give few tips that will keep you on the trend without having to rob a bank or your empty your savings.

  1. Color - According to most experts, you have to choose colors in the same tone palate. Not only do they look elegant and expensive, you’ll be more sophisticated and appear a lot slimmer. The classic colors that always mix well with other colors are: Chocolate Brown, Camel, Butterscotch, Ivory, Ecru, White, Gray and Navy. Not to forget to mention the simplicity and subtleness of these shades will never go wrong in any budget, and with a hint of sharp colors you will always be bang on.
  1. Shades/Hues: The Pantone Color Institute is the leading authority for color palettes and trends in the fashion industry. They have chosen the colors in the table below (left column) for the Fall 2009. They have specific  names for each upscale color tone. However,  for simplicity sake, I will try to give them the nearest equivalent that is more common to layman’s language that most of us will relate to.

American Beauty Burgundy perfect for all skin tones
Purple Heart Plum sense of refinement   and  sensuality
Honey Yellow Butterscotch warmth -The color of the year 2009.
Iron Dark Gray/ Teal Blue Earth tone
Crème Brûlée Dark Beige neutral
Nomad Khaki neutral

2. Texture: Another consideration is the kind of fabric. The quality fabrics you’ll find in fine wools, cotton and silk will appear more elegant and vibrant.

Now,   I know that these few tips  will help you in choosing your own wardrobe and fashion plate for the season. You will also be very surprised to find out that  keeping yourself up to  The  Fall 2009 Look trends are combinations of  vintage looks,  very feminine and contemporary put together as one. Aren’t you glad to  know that you don’t need to go very far? Just find time  to re-visit your closet  or even your mother and grandmother’s closets to get these treasures “must haves”. The fun of pairing and matching them, will definitely bring out your creative side.  Here are my few takes on them:

Tops/Blouse Lace or lace trimmed with tweed blazer.

Plain color tops with vintage accessories or hat.

Add flower or brooch  to a blouse, coat or hat

Exaggerated  long sleeves  with simple sweater with fur collar.

Match silk, lace and tulle with wool, knit and floral.

Accessories/Shoes/

Bags

Vintage and classic pearls are in fashion.

Dangling/Chandelier earrings are must haves.

Long necklaces worn as bracelets. Chokers and  brooches

Cocktail rings are  very chic

Handbags and clutches.

Updated and strappy Mary Jane shoes

Flowers everywhere: clothing, hats, bags…put them everywhere

Make-Up and Color Semi- Matte (combination of sheer and matte) are very hot.

Lots of Lashes.

Eye Colors shades in lightweight, semi sheer, blended, romantic and feminine effect.

Very soft Eyeliners

Defined Lips with elegance  in  Sweet Pink and Deep Chocolates

Brows should be  full and well arched  or defined.

Hair Soft hair up dos whether braid, bun, semi bun, pull out are elegant

Here are few more examples:

Casual Look: simple Crème colored Tee with large hooped gold vintage earring and ring, dark colored jeans and the must have Mary Jane shoes (70s& 80s).

Office Look: White blouse with Dark Gray pencil cut skirt, and Burgundy wide leather belt.  A pair of stylish Mary Jane in Burgundy or Black. Then use a pearl necklace as a bracelet.

Experts say being classy and chic on a budget should never be an issue.  The most important consideration is expressing your individuality. Lastly, choose the color that will flatter your own tone not   the mannequin  on display or your friend who’s wearing it. In order to achieve this, there is one simple rule. TRY IT ON!
