SENIORS SUMMER CARAVAN

SENIORS SUMMER CARAVAN thumbnail

The Filipino Calgarian Seniors Club (FCSC) under the leadership of its president, Mr. Clem Tigley, held another successful educational field trip this past week-end, August 28 and 29 in Edmonton.  They were joined by a busload of Pangasinan Society of Calgary (PASOC) seniors and some members of the Tamaraw Seniors Club led by its president, Frank Tigley.

The PASOC contingent was accompanied by their chaperons, Narlo and Dita Serquiña, for a total of two hundred people in four tour coach buses.  This is the fourth time in as many years that FCSC spearheads a trip to its members.  In previous years, the group has visited the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology in Drumheller in 2007, Waterton National Parks and Japanese Gardens in Lethbridge in 2008, Lake Louise-Columbia Ice Field-Jasper National Park in 2009 and Alberta Legislature Building and The Royal Alberta Museum this year.

Clem Tigley, in his speech during the Social Night in the Edmonton Marriott at the River Cree Resort, emphasized the importance of the members to volunteer in their fundraising programs in order to sustain the many activities of the organization.  He thanked the club’s Vice President Frank Villareal in helping and assisting him during the planning and booking of this event.  Clem gave a special “Thank You” to his lovely wife Ancie Tigley for her indispensable help in coordinating with the phoning committee regarding confirmation of attendees, bus seating arrangement, hotel room-mates, etc and even looking after the last minute glitches. He also stressed the importance and thanked the associate members for their time and talent in assisting the seniors.  Also known as “Mister Volunteer”, Clem also clarified the rumor that the club will terminate senior members over eighty years old.  He dismissed the allegation and said there is no truth of it.  This is being spread by unknown factions and is used as black propaganda to further their own interest and agenda.  He promised his continued support to whoever will succeed him as the club president.  His term will end this year as mandated by FCSC by-laws and a general election of officers for 2011 and 2012 is scheduled on November 14, 2010 at the Holy Trinity Family Activity Centre.  He then concluded his speech by urging the members to participate and vote for the right candidate who can continue to serve the seniors while preserving the good name, dignity and reputation of the organization he has led for four consecutive years.
