by CK May is the month of flowers not just in the Philippines but also here in Calgary.  A lot of my neighbors have done their spring cleaning and unfortunately I cannot cope up with them.  I remember that during this time of the year my husband, Hank gets busier day by day.  He takes care [...]

The Other Side

Wow! A blast of winter for a few days. Then a taste of spring. Then more winter! This time of year is exciting! Mother Nature teases us with signs that we are safe and then hits us again. Spring in Calgary is great, as long as you are prepared for anything. In the next month we don’t plan many trips or outdoor activities until the weather stabilizes. Being neither winter, nor summer, just something in between also means trips to Banff/Lake Louise are boring because there is not much green as things have not started to grow yet and it is brown and slushy. That’s no problem as there are many indoor activities to pursue.

One of those events that I am looking forward to is the Ms. Seniors Calgary Coronation Night. Always a lot of fun, it is a chance to honor the many fine seniors our community is blessed to have. Join us for a memorable night!

For those who enjoy the sight of blood, as long as it is not our own, Manny Pacquiao will decorate the ring with Shane Mosley’s on May 7. Come party with the Cream and Sugar Band at Elbow River Casino and cheer on the most exciting boxer alive today!

Before our next issue you will have had the chance to make your voice heard by casting your vote in the Federal Election. This is the day that Canadians will again send the message to the Opposition parties that we are tired of them using our taxpayer’s money to get revenge for losing the LAST election! The Conservative Party has already been chosen by the voters to continue to drive the economic recovery of our great country and we will do it again. If you tend to disagree with this statement, perhaps you should get your head out of your butt and look around. Economically, there is no better country in the world! Together, with God’s grace in allowing us to better our lives without fear of natural disasters, let’s keep this fragile recovery going. We will use this costly election, forced by the Liberals and their temporary “friends” to tell the Conservative Party that we have faith in what they have done, and continue to do, to improve our economy and lead the world as Canada has always done!

On our side of this great city, it is a no-brainer to confirm Devinder Shory as the person to continue his never ending drive to use our tax dollars wisely, and most importantly, for job creation. I do not have the space to list both Mr. Shory’s and the Conservative Governments accomplishments to date. You can join him on Facebook and see for yourself. The other guys just keep feeding money into healthcare and education etc. and let the union parasites gobble it up. This type of vote buying of Public Service Employees only makes the problem worse.

On the entertainment side of things, Calgary’s best and most fun show of the year, Kasayahan, is coming up on June 25. This is the biggest collection of the incredible pool of talented Filipinos we have seen and for almost 15 years they have made us proud! For those on the business side, I encourage you to contact the Kasayahan people to sponsor them and promote your business with a well organized team. Call Ernie today!

We found time to get into Barrio Fiesta for good food, good friends and excellent music by The Crew Band and Joanne Tamayo. Barrio and their friends never let us down!

On April 19 my young wife Ludy will celebrate her birthday! Be sure to call her and wish her the best and I would like to say I love you! and wish you many more Ludy!

In closing I would like to thank the Pinoy Times family for welcoming Ludy and I to the team at our recent Quarterly Brunch. My apologies to our Publisher Connie for overloading her mailbox with all the fan mail sent to me, but keep those cards and letters (and phone #’s and cheques?) coming!

Remember to pay for your parking and Have a Great spring!

Steve
