Over the past three days, Calgarians have enjoyed sharing their city with their Royal Highnesses, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and all who gathered for this very special occasion.

“Once again Calgarians have done a superb job in welcoming the world and showing our special guests the true spirit of Calgary,” said City Manager Owen Tobert. He expressed gratitude to city employees for the combined efforts of all City business units and agencies. “City employees from across the Corporation worked with our partners, the Calgary Stampede, provincial and federal governments to make sure Their Royal Highnesses enjoyed a safe, fun-filled time in Calgary.”

Over the past days and weeks, The City has devoted appropriate resources to the Royal Tour and the Stampede to ensure that both events are enjoyed by all. “The City’s Interdepartmental Events Team did early planning which facilitated success of the actual visit”, says Acting Director of Calgary Emergency Management Agency (CEMA), Tom Sampson.

During the Royal Visit, CEMA led a multi-agency team to ensure the coordination of City services, and the safety of all Calgarians and visitors. Calgary Police Services supported safety and security measures to assist the RCMP. Sampson said, “We are extremely pleased that we were able to ensure the high level of coordination among multiple service providers. No major incidents occurred. Everything went very smoothly.”

The City of Calgary and CEMA were supported by representatives from the Alberta Emergency Management Agency, Calgary Police Service, Alberta Health Services – EMS, University of Calgary, Calgary Stampede and many City of Calgary business units, including the Calgary Fire Department, Public Safety Communications, Calgary Transit, Roads, Customer Service & Communications, Recreation, Finance, Law, Parks, Development & Building Approvals, Infrastructure & Information Services and Corporate Security.
