It was 22 years ago when I arrived in Canada and chose Calgary, Alberta to be my home.  Leaving my family and friends behind, it was a new adventure for me to be in a new country without knowing anyone.  That was the time I looked for a Filipino community paper and never found any, [...]

PINOY ‘TO ANO’NG SAY MO?

By: Estrella “Tata” Delos Reyes

YOUR THOUGHTS OF THIS YEAR’S SUMMER IN CALGARY

Myla Chicote – Calgary, AB

“Summer is just summer. It depends on you. It’s too hot, well if you stay inside your house it is. But if you go to the park, have a stroll, biking or even just walking, you feel the cool breeze and enjoy. It’s too short, yes it is! That is, when you’re enjoying being outside on your free time and explore, time goes by before you know it. And it is too long for those who are not the outdoorsy type of people. Those who prefer to be a “couch potato” kind of person. Chips and beer on hand in front of the TV 24/7. Some, they don’t even care because they’re busy anyways, working. And it all depends on our hobbies, right? Camping, picnics, walking, biking and all, hobbies that we can do this season. But most people, they prefer winter for skiing, sledding, tobogganing, etc. So I can say is this, no matter what kind of weather we have, it all really depends on us”.

George Olleres, – Calgary, AB

“Don’t worry guys, this is not the end of the world, this not the end of the summer, this is not the end of your life. In the short time of summer, we experienced how important summer is and how important the sun is to our body. Just enjoy the weather even if it is summer or not. The former President Joseph Estrada said weather, weather lang yan…”

Liza Gascon – Calgary, AB

“Warm and cool, hot and cold, dry and wet, clear and blurred, tanned and pale, relaxed and haggard, slow and fast, etc. These are just some of the fantastic combinations during summertime in Calgary. In spite of the freaky weather bringing in thunderstorm and hale it is still spelled F-U-N for everybody. I feel it is that season where life counts most for those who seek adventure or sanctuary from urban life worries”.

Janice Valdez – Calgary, AB

“Good enough summer for me. I got fun everyday from my alagas. Playing grounder and swimming. Have adventures and parties from my friends in the week end.”
