by C.K. Now that winter is over and spring had finally sprung, it’s time to spend more outdoors than indoor activities.  I’m  sure that even the pets we have wants to wonder around in this wonderful weather.  I just got a glimpse of the crocuses on our rock garden and a few perennials  coming back from [...]

The Philippine Cultural Pavilion

….at the Globalfest 2012 OneWorld Festival

by:  Tata “Tatsky” Gascon-Delos Reyes

In the many times that I have watched and participated at the annual celebration of Calgary’s Globalfest & Fireworks display, this year was probably the greatest.  Globalfest is celebrating a milestone (on it’s 10th year) and going pretty strong. The Festival has grown in size since it started in 2003. It hosted numerous activities inside. This year, 15 Pavilions from different countries have participated and the winner for the online voting for the 2012 People’s Choice was none other than our very own.  Congratulations!!!!

Philippines’ Pavilion – Pearl Of The Orient

Coordinator: Irene Macaraeg

The famous line “IT’S MORE FUN IN THE PHILIPPINES” gave us something to really look back to. Our “kababayans” came to the grounds for a visit.  And for those who came early enough to explore what’s in store at the Pavilion never passed the opportunity to get a “Kodak” moment by the tarp that boldly says, “MABUHAY”.

Goosebumps crept in both my arms as I walked closer to that big white tent. Seeing the many Filipinos gathering around, taking pictures and posing for good camera shots left and right, the display of goods and services, the smiles that flourished everywhere you look, and the many ooohs! and aaaahs! Made me truly proud to say, “Pinoy Ako” and this truly is “Our” Pavilion.  The amazing compilation of business opportunities, presentation of Philippine products that gave the chance to some of our Filipino entrepreneurs, and the showcase of Philippine Info businesses here in Calgary, gave this Pavilion the 2 thumbs up from the voting public. Hats off to Coordinator Irene Macaraeg for her endless support and passion that brought forth the “Pinoys” to be one of the many great and internationally-acclaimed Cultures of the Century.  Great Job!!!!
