“Whoever listens to Me will dwell safely and  will be secure, without fear of evil” by Pastor Nilo Briones (B.A.L.M.)

That’s God’s Word in Proverbs 1:33, written for all ages and generations.

The feeling of fear, though in itself not bad, becomes unhealthy when it consumes us by persisting to dominate  our thoughts and trouble our hearts.  A variety of fear may be enumerated as it manifests in an overly financial concern for not having enough (or poverty mentality), for an apprehension that our wrongs might be discovered, for being guilty of sin, for fear of failure due to lack of confidence, for worrying against an uncertain future, for fear of danger being lashed out by calamities beyond our control, and for bad things that may alarm us caused by wrong choices, just to mention a few.

Naturally, in a world that thrives in a cause-and-effect system, there are unwholesome consequences to negative fear which includes being choked of the ability to think and act rightly, and being in a state of panic which eventually paralyzes our minds thus being indecisive.   Fear also undermines self-confidence resulting in being counterproductive; it destroys relationships due to lack of trust and poor self-image; it robs one’s joy and peace, and foremost of all it affects one’s health.  What a big loss indeed!

Even in spiritual realm, the way we view our Creator affects our way of life.  The perspective of looking at God as a stern judge who punishes every mistake that a man does may cause an unhealthy fear.  The truth of the Scripture says that The LORD is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love… for He knows how weak we are; He remembers we are only dust” (Psalm 103:8, 14).  Let us then hold on to our faith on the Lord Jesus Christ, whose ears are attentive to the cries of the humble who regard Him with reverent fear – for this is the only fear that is counted worthy to fill our hearts.  Let us trust Him and believe His faithful promise  — “Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you” (Deut. 31:8).  Therefore, let us not allow ourselves to suffer the unwanted consequences of fear; instead, let’s surrender it to God whose mercy endures forever.  Hallelujah!
