Pinay working student is Pinoy Singing Sensation Champion

By: Fernando A. Chuidian

Cheenee   Morales   a 23 year old nursing student who hails from   South Cotobato and now lives in St. Albert, Alberta was declared winner and went home with the title of Pinoy Singing Sensation Season 4 grand champion. Her rendition of   American Idol Fantasia Barrino’s   song “I Believe” literally   brought the house down and unanimously got the nod of all four   judges.  She competed against eleven equally talented aspiring singers but her soulful style and powerful performance  more than impressed the judges and audience whose  combined  votes help her emerged victorious in one of Alberta’s grandest and premiere Filipino singing competition.

Pinoy Singing Sensation is   now on its fourth year of discovering home grown talents here in Canada. The Edmonton based talent   search   over the years   produced   some of the regions finest singing stars   namely   Jasmin Remoquillo, Wency Calderon, Darren Espanto, Carl Oclares and Ding Lopez.  Some of them now making their own   mark in the music industry here and abroad.

This year’s grand finals was held last   August 31 at the Gateway Alliance Church in Edmonton, Alberta.   The finalist   some of them came all the way from different cities in AB had to pass through a difficult process of Audition, Eliminations, and Semi-Finals before reaching the Final round to which a champion will be proclaimed. This writer had the distinct privilege to sit as one of the judges during their Calgary elimination round.

Competing for the championship title that Saturday night were Jeffrey Fernandez, Kristine Rigor, Bimm Sorino, Dreamie Holman, Kris Miras, Melanie Agostinho, Patricia Enriquez, Raiza Duenas, Oliver Santos, Jennifer Dahan, Sunshine Bautista and   grand champion Chenee Morales.

The board of   judges for the finals night   was headed by one of the most revered name and icon in Philippine music industry Mr. Vehnee Saturno.  Celebrity judge 2001 Voice of Asia judge Nadine Roxas, Life Coach Nina Alles and PSS resident judge Glen Bermundo.

The grand finals night was made more fun and exciting by emcee/host PSS season 2 finalist Jimmy Buena whose wits and humour kept the audience engaged   and   laughing all throughout the contest night. PSS very own past   champions Darren Espanto, Wency Calderon and Carl Ocrales   also performed special numbers showcasing their championship form and talent.

Each of the   eleven grand finalist belted out their best song performance at the start of the finals competition after which the judges and audience votes narrowed the contest to six finalist who were then asked to sing for the next round. Voting and judges score were tabulated once more   for the second round and then after Cheenee Morales was pronounced grand   winner of the contest.   Dreamie   Holman came in second and Melanie Agostinho bagged the third prize.

This very successful event organized by Le Tigre Entertainment Productions is indeed another one of the many feathers in their caps, Kudos rightfully belongs to its President and CEO Tony Surtida, whose   untiring and relentless effort of discovering homegrown talents within the region would see bigger and brighter things to come in their upcoming seasons. He has plans of taking the talent search contest  across  Canada, US, Europe and Asia discovering more  homegrown talents from around the world to compete in the Pinoy Singing Sensation World Championships possibly  to be staged in our home country.

Pinoy Times would like to congratulate   Mr. Tony Surtida and his dedicated staff for another successful season of PSS. Mabuhay po kayo…

Watch out for Pinoy Singing Sensation Season 5 !!!
