LOCAL BEAUTY QUEENS WIN BIG IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

by: Joanna Vispo

On July 27, 2013 amidst music, colors and much applause, Calgary’s Vida Valerie Vispo was crowned Ms. Turismo Petite Teen Intercontinental 2013. In a Beauty Pageant held in Sto. Domingo, Dominican Republic Vida’s younger sister Via Vannessa Vispo also captured Ms. Teenage Intercontinental 2013 while Cathrina Anne Garalde bagged the title Reina de la Independencia HispanoAmericana 2013. They competed with candidates from Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Russia, Puerto Rico, USA, Venezuela and Dominican Republic to name a few.

In a week of activities that included charitable visits, city tours, endless rehearsals, photo shoots and nightly shows, these three young ladies also received additional titles and special awards. Vida, in her category, was voted Miss Wonder Sea 2013 for her sea fantasy costume and brought home a special trophy for her national costume, a fuchsia pink and white ensemble Maria Clara. Via, who donned a white Filipiniana terno accentuated with bold green, blue and yellow flowers for her national costume received a special trophy, too. Cathrina, who opted to wear fantasy rather than a national costume, was awarded the title Embajadura de las Naciones 2013.

Aside from their respective parents and siblings, the lovely ladies received a big boost and moral support while accompanied by the Visminsa Charities Foundation officials. These were led by its’ President Dr. Rose and Roger Geonzon and the energetic Director and mentor Rex Elumir and his wife, Risa.

The sashes, trophies and awards aside, the ladies brought home a lifetime of memories and developed many new friendships.

Congratulations to our new Beauty Queens – Vida, Via and Cathrina, we are extremely proud of you!
