MP Shory: Canada Summer Jobs 2014 Program Is Accepting Applications

Calgary – Devinder Shory, Member of Parliament for Calgary Northeast highlighted that the Canada Summer Jobs  2014 Program is accepting applications from employers looking for funding to help hire students over the summer months.

“This program is expected to create 35,000 jobs across Canada, and benefits both students and employers alike,” said MP Shory. “The program strengthens local communities through job creation, while at the same time giving students valuable work experience and an opportunity to earn an income over the summer months, which can be used to help pay for their education.”

Canada Summer Jobs Program is part of the Conservative Government’s Youth Employment Strategy, whose purpose is to help youth make a successful transition to the workplace.

Interested employers can now apply online at http://www.hrsdc.gc.ca/eng/funding/ for the funding.

Applications must be received before January 31, 2014. Applications are assessed based on local priorities for each constituency.

The local priorities for Calgary Northeast are:

  • Small employers (fewer than 50 employees)
  • Medium-sized employers – not-for-profit organizations only
  • Not for-profit organizations that focus on services to youth and/or provide programs and services for disadvantaged community groups
  • Not for-profit organizations that provide programs and services for immigrants and new Canadians

“Calgary Northeast has a high number of young people and a significant population of immigrants and new Canadians. The priorities for Canada Summer Jobs 2014 program in Calgary Northeast will provide an opportunity to help address the specific needs of the hardest working riding of Calgary Northeast,” explained MP Shory.


“The Canada Summer Jobs Program is a part of our Conservative Government’s ongoing commitment to what really matters to Canadians – jobs, economic growth and long-term prosperity,” concluded MP Shory.
