Dear Kababayans, I hope you are all doing well this April and are keeping safe and healthy during this trying time. Last month we saw businesses closing down and workers getting laid off because of the economic shutdown that was created by the Coronavirus Pandemic. Dear readers,

The summer is going fast as everyone is having fun especially that we just wrapped up the festivities of the 10 days Calgary Stampede.  The weather cooperated in a way where it showered  during the parade but it all went well. I’m sure that the organizers of Calgary Stampede were all happy with an excellent turnout of the Calgary Stampede this year.  Although I was not able to experience the Stampede this year, from what I heard it was an excellent experience to all the attendees.

We hate to see our former Consul General Gilberto Asuque bade us goodbye but his tour of duty has ended.  He has been so different from the very first one who served as Consul General.  He followed protocol and was never persuaded by any group to play favorites.  During his term, no volunteers are allowed not like the first one who had played favorites that you see the same faces of volunteers everyday if you happen to be there at the consulate office.  With Consul General Asuque, he attended to everyone fair and square, no favorites and always carry himself as a leader for all the Filipinos here in Calgary.  He was very easy to talk to and you can talk to him about anything.  We will surely miss him.  His term as Consul General was short but sweet.  You never heard any issue with him amongst the members of the Filipino community unlike the first one.  So we welcome as our new Consul General Zaldy Patron.  To know more about him, please turn to page 24  to read about our new Consul General.

This coming July 26, 2019, don’t forget to see the concert of DECEMBER AVENUE at the Thorncliffe Greenview Community Center.  Tickets available at the door or visit Jon  Tecson Enterprises beside Hongkong Supermarket on 17th Avenue SE Calgary for tickets.

Until next issue, enjoy the rest of your summer!
