FILIPINO WOMEN IN CALGARY URGED TO JOIN CIWA’S FOOD SERVICE TRAINING PROGRAM IN 2020-2021

FILIPINO WOMEN IN CALGARY URGED TO JOIN CIWA’S FOOD SERVICE TRAINING PROGRAM IN 2020-2021 thumbnail

4 February 2020, Calgary – As on outcome of the partnership forged between the Philippine Consulate General in Calgary and the Calgary Immigrant Women’s Association (CIWA) on 13 November 2019, the PCG is promoting CIWA’s “Food Service Training” program this 2020-2021.

Filipino women who are permanent residents in Calgary, above 18 years old and can attend the training program on a full-time basis for three months are eligible to enroll in the program.  The trainees must also be available to work in the food service sector for six months or more after the training.  During the three-month training, CIWA will provide the trainees with job search, childcare and transit support.

Among the skills that the trainees are expected to learn are knife skills, barista and beverage skills, cash register operation, customer service, and interview and resume skills.  Those who complete the training will be issued an Advance Food Safety Certificate.

CIWA’s “Food Service Training” will take place in four batches on the following dates:

Intake 1: April 6 - June 26, 2020

Intake 2: July 6 – September 25, 2020

Intake 3: October 5 – December 18, 2020

Intake 4: January 4 – March 26, 2021

Filipino women who are eligible to join are advised to contact CIWA’s Ms. Myla Felipe at tel. no. 403-263-4414 (ext. 250) or email: mylaf@ciwa-online.com or Ms. Jill Liu at 403-263-4414 (ext. 253) or email: JillL@ciwa-online.com for an interview.

“It is important for our Filipino women permanent residents in Calgary to acquire skills that will open job opportunities for them so the PCG partnered with CIWA to actively promote CIWA’s food service training program to the Filipino community in Calgary,” said Philippine Consul General Zaldy Patron.

Aside from promoting CIWA’s training program, the PCG also regularly speaks at CIWA’s Family Reunification Workshop to help newly arrived Filipinos as they transition and adjust to life in Calgary. CIWA is a non-profit organization established in 1982 as a registered charity.
