HAPPY NEW YEAR! HAPPY THREE KINGS! As we are now in 2019, new year, new beginnings, new challenges and new opportunities. Everyone is entitled to make their new year’s resolution for as long as they keep it in mind and make sure that they do it to the best of their ability. When I was young [...]
Visitors to Pinoytimes

I can’t imagine how the time just goes by and here I’m back to face the remaining winter days here at home. After 3 weeks of holiday in the Philippines, I am back to reality, work, work and more work. But nevertheless, I am thankful that I had some time to relax, get together with my friends and former students and at the same time do my sightseeing trips at the same time. But one thing I found during my holiday this time was my commitment to my Filipino community in Calgary. Even if I was miles and miles away, I managed to have the January issue of Pinoy Times released on time. I remember staying up till 3 am just to make sure that all my files were submitted on time to printing. I guess as a former educator, I have the sense of dedication and commitment to my craft. I was happy to hear that when the papers were distributed to our stands, people were asking for their copy right away. Thank you to all our readers and we will do our best to provide you with up to date information about our community, our people and our home country, the Philippines.
One thing I noticed when I arrived at the Centennial airport is the courteousness of our fellow Pinoys who worked there. They ask you if you need help and they don’t put a price on the help they extend to you. It is up to you to give them whatever amount (tip) you want to give. And it is also good to see that they now have a taxi stand at the airport where you have to line up and once it’s your turn to take the cab, they write down the plate number of the taxi and the time it departed with the passenger. Even in the malls there is a taxi stand and a security guard, so it makes you feel a lot safer than just waiting for the taxi on the street. There’s also tight security in hotels like where I stayed when I arrived, Traders Hotel (used to be Holiday Inn Manila) where they have K-9 to check the guests’ luggage upon check in. The same goes with Dusit Thani in Makati. Overall, my holiday was great and now I’m back to reality, back to work and start saving for the next holiday.
On the lighter note, it’s a special month for everyone, because the month of February is when we celebrate VALENTINE’S DAY. We should take some time to acknowledge the presence of our loved ones in our life. It can be as simple as saying I LOVE YOU or just by giving that person a very tight hug to make him/her feel how important he/she is in your life. Always remember, ACTIONS SPEAKS LOUDER THAN WORDS.
So my dear friends, let’s live life to the fullest and be happy, life is to short to make ourselves miserable, as the saying goes, “SMILE AND THE WHOLE WORLD SMILES AT YOU” . LET US ALL AIM FOR A COMMON GOOD, LET US BE UNITED AS FILIPINOS. ITAPON ANG MASAMANG KAUGALIAN AT IPAGPATULOY ANG MABUTI GAWAIN PARA SA IKAUUNLAD NATING LAHAT.
MABUHAY TAYONG MGA PINOY!!!!
