It was just recently when the case of our beloved ARCELIE LAOGAN was opened for trial for her perpetrator. It has been on the news almost everyday, on radio, television, internet and in our daily papers. Everyone is waiting for justice to what happened to our dear Arcelie…..nobody deserved to go thru what she has gone thru……and now justice must prevail. Talking with Marlyn Hori, Arcelie’s sister, I can still feel the pain that this tragedy has brought to her and the rest of her family. I can feel the suffering that they have to endure attending the court hearings and listening to all the witnesses’ testimonies. It is indeed a long process of having to live with the tragedy that happened in January of 2008 to our dear Arcelie.
I had the chance to ask Marlyn Hori is can allow us to publish what she has said during Arcelie’s wake in 2008 and in so doing, she just want to thank all of you who have been there during their trying times and moments of agony for the loss of their beloved sister and mother to her 5 growing children.
“On behalf of my sister, Caroline and my brother Oswald, and Arcelie’s family back in the Philippines, I would like to thank everyone for the overwhelming sympathy, love and concern you have all expressed to us during this tragic time with the loss of our sister, Arcelie. Arcelie cared about everyone, most especially to her family….her boys….she wanted nothing but a promising future for them and made the sacrifice to find work overseas, which would allow her to support them and eventually provide her with the opportunity to sponsor them. It was within her grasp….she was so close to accomplishing what she set out to do….we hope that her untimely death will not mean the death of a dream.
I want to thank the Honorary Consul General Felixberto Guerrero for his extraordinary help and support he and his office extended to use from the day we arrived.
I want tot thank Mr. George Brookman of West Canadian and Arcelie’s employer. He personally met with us and made sure that we were attended to, for the support his company was extending to make sure that we can repatriate Arcelie back to the Philippines, and for assuring us that the doors of West Canadian was open to us. We truly felt that Mr. Brookman, Ms. Jane Mugford and the staff of West Canadian treated us as extended family.
Thank you to the Calgary Police Service….to Detectives Goeff Brydges, Len Minello, Kevin Forsen, Pat McCalen…for your persistent efforts to find justice for our sister. For Dean Good and Associates fo the Victims Assistance Unit for helping us cope with our loss.
Thank you all to those whom I may have failed to mention and are working round-the-clock to find the answers to our tragedy.
Arcelie would have loved to have been here to see all of you and how you cared. Let us all tell and retell her story of sacrifice. Let us keep her dream alive.
Thank you.”
Marlyn Hori indicated that it was really hard for them to go on with their lives everyday with the pain that was caused by this tragic incident. But down the road they have learned to accept what happened with the hope that justice will prevail.
