Getting a personal trainer might be the best thing you ever do for your overall health and fitness. Having someone there to keep you on track, develop a program, keep you focused, motivated and to measure each and every one of your successes may be exactly what you need to reach your fitness goals.
Here’s what to look for when hiring a personal trainer:
1. SET UP A MEETING/CONSULTATION.
Most personal trainers will offer a complimentary session, consultation or assessment. This is the time where you can get to know each other. You want to make sure your personalities and interests are similar and that you will be able to work together. This is also the time to see if your schedules will work together (early A.M., after work, or weekends?)
2. GET HIS/HER CERTIFICATIONS.
Look at their educational background, and industry experience. Make sure that they are certified under a reputable organization. Look at how many years of practical experience they have. Make sure your trainer is qualified for your specific goals and fitness objectives.
3. SEE IF THE TRAINER HAS ACHIEVED SIMILAR GOALS WITH HIS/HER OTHER CLIENTS.
Make sure your trainer has the relevant experience to help you with your individual goal – is it to lose weight, run a marathon, compete in your first bodybuilding show, or is it to rehabilitate an injury? Ask about past client success stories to determine the trainers knowledge and skill based on your specific goals. You can even ask to speak with the trainer’s previous and current clientele to get a first-hand account of their experience.
Studies have shown that having the right personal trainer can increase your chances of achieving your goals by up to 80%!
