It was 22 years ago when I arrived in Canada and chose Calgary, Alberta to be my home. Leaving my family and friends behind, it was a new adventure for me to be in a new country without knowing anyone. That was the time I looked for a Filipino community paper and never found any, [...]

paglayang minamahal…..
FREEDOM, at last the Philippine flag was waving proudly on top of the horizon, alone and magnificent. As the crispy wind blows freely, kissing the very fabric of the flag, standing magnificently on that mighty flagpole, and at the same time the news was spreading wildly, like the wind, like the free bird flying on the horizon. That was long time ago. That piece of cloth is a signed of freedom, freedom being fought by our lost, brave, courageous and unselfish heroes. Freedom, free, we are free at last. A taste of freedom, a taste of victory, blood was shed, lives were lost, a courageous act, an unselfished desire, a dream that was burning in those heroes heart, to be independent, to be a complete person or a complete nation as a whole, to establish a different thing on our own not to depend always on the dictate of those who conquered our nation. A freedom for the next generation and to the following and following generation. Savouring the freedom is truly acquiring our own self, our own identity, something to be proud of. Something that can be passed on to our children. So sweet to savour the fruit of their labor. The heroes of long time ago. Rizal, Mabini, Bonifacio, Luna, del Pilar to mention some. If we will notice in our Philippine flag that the sun is surrounded by eight sign which in Tagalog we called it Sinag ng araw, they represent the eight provinces in the Philippines that joined together to fight for freedom, to mention some Bataan, Batangas, Bulacan, Cavite, Pampanga and those three stars represent the Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. In my own opinion the color of our flag have a very significant meaning. Yellow stars and sun which means power and will shine always no matter what. Blue which means peace and whatever might happen peace in the Philippines will always prevail.White as a signed of purity and beauty, and I believe in my heart that Philippines is a very beautiful country. And red the color of blood, the blood that was being shed by those heroes, which represent courage and bravery of the Filipino people. That was long time ago, but then, a history that will never be erased, never be forgotten, something that we can be proud of as a Filipinos. Truly the color of our flag will speak the true blooded Filipino people.
Time has passed, time elapsed and many things had happened since then. Freedom? Is it still alive in our beloved country? Yes I think it is, but then sad to say, not to all but to some. Powerful people in the Philippines come and go, the laws were changed. Most of the time the rich have more freedom, but the poor have none. Probably that is the main reason why lots of the Filipinos decided to work in foriegn land, to immigrate in foriegn land, to acquire another citizenship and they can not be blamed of because they think they are more safe and have more freedom in a foriegn land. Yet still in our heart and in our mind we are Filipinos a people of the Philippines, and if we will try to look back there is something that we can be proud of, that past history, a legacy that will remain a legacy of the Filipino people. Courage and bravery….
At this present age, there are also lots of Filipinos who are also a heroes in there own way, fighting in a different way for the Philippines. Giving honor to our beloved country, helping to recover the poor economy, helping the country to stand up again, to arise again, to acquire again that freedom that seems fading away, a freedom in the truest meaning of that word. After May 2010 election a book was closed, an addition to the history of the Philippines, but for sure another book will be opened and in one heart and one spirit the Filipino people are hoping for a new Philippines, a brighter tomorrow, freedom for all Filipino not for the few only. And we must remember that the very moment our flag rose and waved alone signifying our freedom, where ever we are where ever we may go, we are a true blooded Filipino, with our own true IDENTITY, and that is something that we can be PROUD of. Can I ask one question to my fellow Filipinos. Are you proud to be a Filipino? As for me my article is my answer.
GOD BLESS PHILIPPINES
