Since I received the annual stampede planner in the mail, I have looked forward to Stampede 2010. This 10-day celebration is the only time in the City of Calgary, where ordinary people become cow boys and girls while real cowboys become heroes and celebrities. It all starts with kicking up cowboy boots while stampede breakfast is being served in all places around the city.
Since I arrived in Calgary in 2000, I have been part of the celebration in one way or the other. While a lot of people engaged themselves with games, rides and food, I prefer indoor attractions specially now that I can enjoy watching them with my husband Mark.
For my 10th year of stampede experience, I promised myself that I will make the most of Stampede and visit 10 attractions in 10 days.. I must say, it truly rewarding to realize that we ran out of time before we ran out attractions to see. |So here’s my top 10 most recommended attractions that we thoroughly enjoyed without breaking the bank and a must for everyone to see and enjoy the way we did.
10. Stampede Midway/Ground- extreme fun from rides to games with deep fried pickles, corndog or mini donuts.. There’s no experience like real adrenaline rush, prizes and full stomach.
9. Indian Village / – Admire Indian arts, speak and eat with native residents and cheer with tipi raising contest are just few things you don’t want to miss. Free invitations

8 Agriculture and Animals-An interactive and edu-entertainment where city meets rural. A fun and exciting visit for the whole family for free
7. Midway Circus Stage- Where you will be amazed by extreme riders and their daring jumps in Motocross or an interactive diving show, and of course the dazzling showdown of slam dunkers. No bucks required

5. Coca- Cola Stage with Hypnotist Terry Stokes – A fun filled show with lots to chuckle about. Participant volunteers get hypnotized and acted oddly that you can’t help yourself but cry laughing. You don’t spend a dime
Western Oasis and Indoor Exhibits- A piece of heaven in a cool, calm and culture featuring finest displays of western arts and crafts.
4. Rodeo/ Chuckwagon and Grandstand Show- From GMC rangeland derby to rodeo up to Grandstand show with fireworks, the Grandstand is a place to be. Admission fee required
