Dear readers, The summer is going fast as everyone is having fun especially that we just wrapped up the festivities of the 10 days Calgary Stampede.  The weather cooperated in a way where it showered  during the parade but it all went well. Stelmach to promote Canada-U.S. energy cooperation

Premiers gather in Winnipeg for Council of the Federation
Edmonton… Premier Ed Stelmach will reinforce the strategic and national importance of Alberta’s oil sands as well as the critical role they play in North American energy security at the Council of the Federation (COF) Summer Meeting August 4 to 6.

“The benefits of Alberta’s oil sands extend well beyond our provincial borders,” said Premier Stelmach, who will lead the oil sands discussion at the meeting in Winnipeg, MB. “I will ensure my colleagues across Canada understand that Alberta’s oil sands contribute to Canada’s GDP, create jobs in other provinces and provide a secure source of energy for North America.”

Alberta’s interests will also be furthered when a number of issues arising from the most recent Western Premiers’ meeting in Vancouver are discussed at COF. These topics include immigration; environment and climate change; and Canada-U.S. relations.

The Council of the Federation is made up of Canada’s 10 provinces and three territories. The Council promotes inter-provincial territorial cooperation, meaningful relations between governments based on respect for the Constitution, and shows leadership on issues important to all Canadians. More information on the Council can be found at www.councilofthefederation.ca.

The Government of Alberta has a clear plan for a strong economic recovery. The Way Forward will bring Alberta back into a surplus position in three years by trimming government spending; using cash reserves to protect key programs; continuing to invest in public infrastructure; and ensuring that our province’s industries are competitive and continue to attract investment to provide jobs and prosperity.
