Now it’s officially Fall with all change of colors, time to take out your cameras and take pictures of the beautiful surroundings especially driving down the road with huge trees and the green leaves turning into golden yellow. It is truly an amazing sight that mother nature has given us. Where we are originally from, the Phliippines, we only have two seasons, summer and rainy. We enjoy a lot of sun back from home not unlike here in North America that we only have the Vitamin D from the sun a few months in a year. That’s why it is very important for us to take Vitamin D in daily dose to supplement our lack of natural source of Vitamin D. My husband, who is suffering from Parkinson’s disease has found out from his readings that Vitamin D deficiency is one of the reasons why a person can be afflicted with such disease. It was proven in his case because he is extremely low in Vitamin D everytime he would have his lab tests. So it is also very important that we always go for our complete physical with all the laboratory tests required in order to know what we really need to keep our body in the best shape, form and state. As I said over and over again, never procrastinate, do not put off things that you can do today for tomorrow because you’ll never know what tomorrow will bring.
Belated Happy Thanksgiving to all our readers. We should be thankful for all the beautiful things around us for all these years. There is a huge meaning to THANKSGIVING DAY and as what I have read, it is a celebration of being thankful for what one has and the bounty year of the previous year Thanksgiving corresponds to the English and continental-European Harvest festival, with churches decorated with cornucopias, pumpkins, corn, wheat sheaves, and other harvest bounty (Wikipedia). For me and my family, we have adopted the tradition of having Turkey dinner during Thanksgiving. It was also a coincidence that my brother and his family who are new immigrants turned 40th and we did a double celebration of his birthday and our Thanksgiving get together dinner. Family is still our number one priority when it comes to this special occasions. We will be looking forward to more celebrations of course before the year ends.
For next month, November, we will be celebrating REMEMBRANCE DAY, which falls on November 11. “Remembrance Day – also known as Poppy Day, Armistice Day (the event it commemorates) or Veterans Day – is a Commonwealth holiday to commemorate the sacrifices of members of the armed forces and of civilians in times of war, specifically since the First World War. It is observed on 11 November to recall the end of World War I on that date in 1918 (major hostilities of World War I were formally ended “at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month” of 1918 with the German signing of the Armistice). The day was specifically dedicated by King George V, on 7 November 1919, to the observance of members of the armed forces who were killed during war; this was possibly done upon the suggestion of Edward George Honey to Wellesley Tudor Pole, who established two ceremonial periods of remembrance based on events in 1917. (Source: Wikipedia) So let us not forget to honor our fallen brothers on this day of remembrance.
On the lighter note, I’m sure that everyone had a blast of all the events that took over this past month, from the FIREPLACE GATHERING to BANYUHAY and then the JED MADELA concert. I was given the privilege to have a one on one interview with Jed Madela and it was really an honor to see him face to face. I remember when I was did not have PINOY TIMES yet that I saw him perform as a front act to Geneva Cruz together with Bayani Agbayani at the Jack Singer Hall years ago. According to Jed, he has been in Canada 4 times but was in Calgary for the 2nd time only. We are also lucky that Jed’s cousin is from Calgary and she was the one who produced Jed’s concert. I would like to commend Ms. Joy Tanjanlangit of JT Productions for a job well done together with her co-producer A1-Waste Removal of Mr. and Mrs. Callao, the proud parents of none other than Ms. Laurie Callao, Calgary’s Singing Star Search Season 3 Grand Champion. This particular event proved that nobody can beat the Filipinos when it comes to talent. Congratulations to everyone who was a part of this big production. Until next time, we will be looking forward to more shows from JT Productions.
Until next issue, MABUHAY ANG PINOY!
