A short review of recent Cinema flicker Pinoy movie “I Do”
The recent movie that starred two of the most sought-after love tandems Enchong Dee and Erich Gonzales have aired in Cineplex Odeon Cinema for 10 days. It may not be the super duper drama anthologies of previous movies aired in the past, nor an action-packed offering that may have invited the men of Calgary, but it sure was another kind of movie genre that tickled the bones of a lot of Filipinos in Canada who miss the funkiness of a typical Filipino family. The comedic acts of the main characters brought once again smiles and laughter to the moviegoers who are definitely home sick especially when “BER” months arrive. This season is when all of us feel the urge to be back home and enjoy the warmth of the air as the breeze of cold air slowly crawls in our neighborhood. Winter winter winter!!! So there you go… a movie to at least enjoy a night of giggles and bonding with friends that adds some relief to the insult.
Starring Enchong Dee and Erich Gonzales in their first movie starrer where they main cast, the movie was not an ace hit as the others that came previous to them. Understandable, as they are freshmen and may have to come up with a couple more to prove the flick is really out there and that their partnership is such bankable as others. The flag bearers were supported by the antics of one of the best comedienne in Philippine movies at the moment, Pokwang. Her natural talent plus the comedic skills a Dennis Padilla has, was a contributing factor to the $$$ and “Pesosesoses” that this movie may have garnered.
The story may have been so true in many essences as there truly are differences in Fil-Chi beliefs and pure “Pinoy”-bred individual. I came across a story in the past of one of my colleagues that is why I was able to somehow related to the genuineness of the story. Although, the modern age Filipino Chinese are more open now to the idea of mix marriage between a pure Chinese blood versus a pure Filipino blooded citizens in the Philippines. The story that evolved in a life of a teenage love affair and marriage enforced by sudden pregnancy, the movie is not extra ordinarily unique. But the chronological events transpired in such manner where at the end, the saying “Love Conquers all”, and “Family First”, truly has meaning and exists in real world.
I personally love the comedic acts and not so much for the story line. I kept watching out for what funny scene would come up next. I needed to stretch my laugh lines, and I needed the relief from a hard day’s work. As for the storyboard? Well, as any Cinderella-type and other fairy tales, the story was a happy ending. And that may be just what everybody wants at the end of each day.
