CALGARY, AB – MP Devinder Shory today congratulated Bell Helicopter of Calgary Northeast on a $640 million Government of Canada contract for Canada’s aerospace industry.
“This contract means hundreds of full-time jobs in Calgary and Quebec on a long-term basis,” said MP Devinder Shory. “As well, with our 10 year $640 million dollar investment, we are demonstrating our commitment to provide the best equipment to our men and women in uniform.”
The contract, which covers the repair and overhaul, parts provisioning, support services and engineering services for the CH-146 Griffon helicopters, will maintain 300 jobs in the aerospace industry in Calgary, Alberta, and Mirabel, Quebec. Additional subcontracts will be awarded over the contract period to provide support to select military bases, such as Valcartier, Quebec; Petawawa and Trenton in Ontario; and Gagetown, New Brunswick, and for various companies located in the Western provinces.
“The Liberals have been very clear that they want to cancel military contracts, such as the newly-announced F-35 contract, on the backs of Canada’s aerospace workers and their families. It would devastate thousands of families,” said MP Devinder Shory. “Then, the Liberals have also proposed tax increases, which would put thousands out of work and hurt thousands of families.”
“Compare that to our Conservative Government. We promised to lead the way in jobs and growth, and Canada is now doing significantly better than almost any other advanced country in the world. This is very good news for your family and for your future generations.”
“This $640 million Bell Helicopter contract is also very good news, as our high-tech aerospace industry continues to grow by leaps and bounds in Canada and especially right here in the hardest-working riding in Canada, Calgary Northeast.”
