Wow, what a blast of winter we’ve had recently! Is it over? No, there will be lots more! A few cold days, then a few warm days, then cold again. You never know what to wear from day to day.
Don’t let the weather affect your plans. Although it was a bit cold we managed to take in the World Cup skiing at Canada Olympic Park. Believe it or not, Ludy and I have been in Calgary almost 20 years and this was our first visit to COP. For those who actively ski, skate and snowboard, they are aware of the many activities that can be both seen or done there. For the more mature of our population, you do not have to be a participant in those sports; there are numerous things to watch.
The World Cup event we attended (free) was the Skiing Aerials. Skiers with NO FEAR! from around the world fly down the hill at high speed and launch themselves into the sky! And as if that isn’t enough – before they land, hopefully on their skis, they do several flips, rolls and twists. Once in a while even the experts took a tumble, showing how dangerous the sport can be. Thankfully there were no serious injuries and the coolest thing is that local hero Warren Shouldice from Calgary took home the Gold!
If you’re looking for awesome photo opportunities as well as exciting action, Canada Olympic Park is the place to go! If you are an outdoors person you probably already know all about COP. Pack a lunch and hot drinks as you will not be surprised that a burger and fries there is about the same price as lechon! Google COP – you’ll be glad you did!
As I write this, the boss is packing a few things for another weekend in Banff and Lake Louise. We never get tired of the beautiful scenery there – summer or winter. We will check out the ice sculptures at Lake Louise and
we also get to attend our inaanak’s figure skating show in Banff to finish off the weekend.
Exciting news this month as PhilippineFest 2012 was announced! The Calgary Filipino community has grown much over the last few years and it is about time we had a big Festival. Make sure you contact them early if you are interested in any part of the Festival, whether it is Exhibitor/Vendor, Entertainment, Food or other. Let’s show Calgary how to party!
Have a great month!
