It was just like yesterday when I was away for 3 weeks on my working holiday in Manila.  As I was getting ready for my flight back to Calgary, the thoughts of going back to our winter weather is one thing I was not excited.  The tropical weather is what I would always love around in Calgary, which unfortunately will never happen.  Nevertheless, home it is and we just have to look forward to Spring.

Manila of course is one of the busiest place in the Philippines and traffic is 24/7.  No matter how many highways, bridges and roads they built, with all the vehicles out on the road, and all the commuters all day round, it will never change the traffic situation.  One incident I encountered in Manila was when I was in a taxi that was pulled over by an  LTO (Land Transportation Organization) officer.  The officer asked for the registration of the taxi and the driver handed it over to him.  Everything was in order and there was nothing wrong with his papers.  But because of no violation on the registration papers of the taxi, they gave the driver a ticket for not wearing his seatbelt.  The ticket caused 300 pesos and his license was confiscated.  It will take 1 week before the driver can get his license back and he has to go to the LTO office in Quezon City.  My question in this case is how many agencies in the Philippines can do this act of issuing ticket to a driver?  Is it the police force, the highway patrol, the LTO, the MMDA or theTraffic Enforcement group?  If any of you have the answer to my question, please do not hesitate to send me an email at [email protected].

One of my unforgettable experience in Manila is when I a picture with 2 members of the CHIPPENDALES (for all the ladies out there). I stayed at the Marriott in Newport City (right across from NAIA Terminal 3) for 2 nights and the CHIPPENDALES had a 2 night show at the Newport Theater.  In the morning of February 20, while having breakfast and some of these guys were also having their breakfast.  I bumped into one of them on the buffet line and asked him how they show went.  He said it was great and that they are off to Singapore for 5 nights show.  I found out that the guy I talked to (David is his name) is from Toronto.  They have regular shows at the Rio in Las Vegas.  So for those who are heading to Las Vegas, maybe you catch the show of the CHIPPENDALES.

After checking out from the Marriott, I took their free shuttle to the airport for my departure to Calgary.  I have 1 box in excess of my 2 checked in luggages so I paid  almost close to 10,000 pesos for the extra luggage. But I was very happy when I got upgraded to Business class, it was a treat that after several flights with PAL, I finally got rewarded with the comfort and luxury on my direct flight to Vancouver.

More to read from my trips includes my trips to GK LOS BANOS, PALAWAN, CEBU and TALISAY, BATANGAS.  Also my chance to witness the world class 2011 World PyroMusical Fireworks Competition held at Manila Bay from February 12 to March 12, 2011 presented by Platinum Fireworks and Mall of Asia and accredited by the Department of Tourism.

Around town, there’s lots of things we have to look forward to just like the upcoming concert on March 19, 2011 -  Let’s Rock Canada Tour featuring Jovit Baldovino, the grand winner of Pilipinas Got Talent and Yeng Constantino the Pop Rock Princess and with special appearance of Ate Gay.  This is the most awaited concert of 2011 produced by JAVA Productions.

Another twist of story on the case of Joel Zalsos’ death, a 32 year old Filipino has come forward to the police in connection with this case.  I am not going to elaborate on this because it is all in the news.  The only thing I want to remind my fellow Filipinos, yes, love is a many splendor thing, but sometimes we love at the wrong time and with the wrong person.  So maybe before we get ourselves involved with someone, let us think of the repercussions we have to face in the end.  Is it worth it to take someone’s life for LOVE or LUST?

We should not forget, HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY to all our readers!
