PICPA-CALGARY CANADA CHAPTER INDUCTION CEREMONIES

The Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) – Calgary Canada Chapter held its induction of members and 1^st set of officers last Saturday, July 16, 2011 at the Manila’s Finest Grill & Pub along 17 Avenue SE.

The ceremony was graced by officers and members of the PICPA-Vancouver Chapter: Marissa Velarde, the founding president; Dan Roxas, the Vice President for Membership; Bert Parungao, Past President, and Shailene Caparas.

Inducted as 1^st set of officers were: Manuel Felicio, President; Hilario Agpuldo, VP-Membership; Rex Perin, VP-Professional Development; Lorna Joy Drilon, Secretary; Roan Joy Nieto, Assistant Secretary; Maria Araceli Vilches, Treasurer; Mel Javelon Chua, Auditor; Leila Meneses, Chairperson-External Affairs; Lecelie Placibe, Assistant Chair-External Affairs; Renato Bergonia, Chairperson-Spouses Affairs; Manuel Abella and Jeriel Vilches as Directors.

The affair started with the opening prayer led by Rex Perin. This was followed with the singing of the national anthems of the Philippines and Canada. The welcome remarks were done by Manny Felicio, President, afterwhich, he introduced the 4 guests from PICPA-Vancouver to the entire group.

Lunch followed and everybody partook of the sumptuous Filipino food served by Manila’s Finest Grill and Pub. An intermission number followed and this was provided by Mylene Balocating, one of the members of PICPA-Calgary.

At this point, the introduction of the guest of honor was done by Rene Bergonia. Marissa Velarde, our first guest of honor, gave her inspirational message. Then, the induction of members of the newly-formed PICPA-Calgary Canada Chapter was done. Marissa inducted 20 members in attendance into the new Chapter.

Introduction of the second guest of honor was made by Manny Abella. Dan Roxas, PICPA-Vancouver’s VP for Membership, gave his inspirational message to the group afterwhich he inducted the 1^st set of officers of the PICPA-Calgary Chapter.

After all these had been done, Manny Felicio, Calgary Chapter President, assisted by Leila Meneses, Chair for External Affairs, distributed the certificates of appreciation to the visiting guests. As a token of gratitude, the guests were each bestowed by the Chapter’s Secretary, Lorna Joy Drilon, with the world-famous Calgary Smithbilt White Hats. Everybody present shouted their loudest “Yahoo” to the delight of the visitors.

The new members were also given tokens from the last PICPA International Global Convention which was held in Vancouver last May 2011. These consisted of backpacks, t-shirts, and the programme. Closing remarks were given by the PICPA-Calgary President, Manny Felicio. Masters of ceremonies for the afternoon’s event were Grace del Rosario and Ofhel Tubeo.

After the affair, the visitors were treated to a tour at the Calgary Stampede grounds in order to experience Calgary’s brand of Western hospitality and good cheer. A barbecue party was later held at the residence of Belinda Santilla, a PICPA-Calgary Chapter member.

The Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) – Calgary Canada Chapter was formed to gather all Filipino CPAs who are now living here in Calgary, Alberta, Canada into one group to help each other and work toward the realization of the professional goals and aspirations shared by every Filipino CPA living abroad. It is the latest member to join the PICPA International Affiliate Council of USA, Canada, Australia and Europe.

By joining the chapter, one gets the chance to be reinstated as a Member of Good Standing of the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA), bring one’s educational and professional qualifications at par with global standards thru Continuing Professional Education (CPE), be updated with the latest development and happenings in the field and practice of Accountancy, and broaden one’s professional and social networks.
