We’re now starting to feel that FALL is now in the air with some of the leaves starting to change color. With some leaves starting to fall on the ground and getting to work is not the same anymore, we now fee that sometimes it’s just 12 above and we need to wear our fall jackets and not just our very light sweaters for the summertime. With fall just around the corner, it marks the start the beginning of our 4th year in circulation of PINOY TIMES and the birth of our quarterly magazine soon to launch on September 30th, PINOYLIVING TODAY. This will be the very first of its’ kind and will definitely prove that the FILIPINOS are not just COMING SOON but NOW SHOWING! We are definitely world class when it comes to some of our achievements like in the boxing arena where MANNY PACQUIAO has claimed to be the POUND BY POUND title holder, in the broadway musical where we have LEA SALONGA who is none other than the popular MISS SAIGON and PRINCESS JASMINE together with her performance in LES MISERABLES, we alo have another international artist who is none other than CHARICE who has got herself to be one of the case in the musical GLEE and we can go on and on to name some of the icon of the PHILIPPINES.
So what’s new in Calgary? In the just concluded GLOBALFEST 2011, the Philippine team represented by PLATINUM FIREWORKS, got the PEOPLES’ CHOICE AWARD and that will bring them back next year to the 10th Anniversary of GLOBALFEST 2012. Congratulations to Joel and Liza Sta. Ana, proud owners of Platinum Fireworks, Robert Basihan, pyrotechnique choreographer and to the crew, Jun and Charlie. Aside from them we would like to congratulate Irene and Nelson Macaraeg and their team for receiving the Best in Cultural Pavilion award. Ihaw-Ihaw also got the Best in Ethnic Food award which was managed by Agnes Perkins and her team. Definitely, the Filipinos are getting more recognition aside from that fact that everyone knows that the Filipinos are very hardworking and very hospitable. We should be proud of who we are and never forget that even if most of us are now Canadian citizens we all came from the same cultural heritage as Filipinos.
Last but not the least, I would like to thank again all those who joined us in our 3rd anniversary potluck picnic. It was another huge sucess. I would also like to thank our games coordinator, Ms. Lynette Mitra, for helping out in making our event a success and together with the other volunteers.
