Through P3 Canada, there were approximately $24 billion worth of applications (including Calgary’s) received for approximately $1.25 billion in available funding. Calgary’s application in this particular recent case was unsuccessful.
However, there are many different streams for federal funding, and YES, in spite of a cynical campaign to blatantly twist the facts,
Calgary HAS received its fair share based on population.
Following is a non-exhaustive list of recent and upcoming federal funding for Calgary through various streams:
$15,000,000 Genesis Centre for Community Wellness
$15,000,000 Canada Sports Hall of Fame
$1,970,851 Widening of Highway 2 Interchange Structure
$1,971,459 Resurfacing of Highway 2
$275,500 Improvements to Highway 862
$4,558,193 Highway 2 – Deerfoot Trail
$3,341,791 Widening of Deerfoot Trail
$26,666,666 7th Avenue Rehabilitation
$2,000,000 LRT Security System Upgrade
$10,000,000 LRT Traction Power Upgrades
$40,000,000 Telus World of Science

The City of Calgary also receives gas tax rebates every year from the federal Government – over 3x more than under the previous Liberal
Government!
Breakdown of Gas Tax Money Allocated to Calgary by Year:
2005-2006 $16,902,281
2006-2007 $16,902,281
2007-2008 $22,546,224
2008-2009 $29,182,278
2009-2010 $58,326,109
2010-2011 $59,377,855
2011-2012 $59,377,855
2012-2013 $59,377,855
2013-2014 $59,377,855
TOTAL $381,370,593 (Gas Tax Rebates)
YES, Calgary HAS received a fair share of federal funding based on its population, and a cynical campaign to blatantly twist facts takes
direct aim at what needs to remain a strong relationship.
