It was 22 years ago when I arrived in Canada and chose Calgary, Alberta to be my home. Leaving my family and friends behind, it was a new adventure for me to be in a new country without knowing anyone. That was the time I looked for a Filipino community paper and never found any, [...]

When you are hurting, have you ever wondered how God comforts you? We are living in a fallen world filled with imperfections that cause sorrows not only by us but by the wrong doing of others upon us. A heartache is no respecter of persons — young and old, rich and poor have their shares of grief. The apostle Peter knows the way to lighten up life’s burdens by exhorting us to “Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you” (1 Peter 5:7). This is one of the blessings of having a personal relationship with God, but it’s not just enough to surrender our cares to the Lord. We must believe that He hears us. When a Christian casts all his care upon the Lord, he is doing so by faith, which means putting his trust in the Lord, for he knows that He genuinely cares for him.
It is indeed by faith in Him that the Lord blesses us because He is a rewarder of those who diligently (sincerely) seek Him, “And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him” ” (Hebrews 11:6). And it’s not enough that we earnestly pray; what is most important is the object of our prayer, and that is by addressing it to God in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. There is truly power in His Name. As the Scripture says, “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).
Moreover, not only can we find comfort by offering prayers to God; we can also find comfort by going to the Bible. “For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope” (Romans 15:4). The Scripture says that God is the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort. He comforts us in all our pain so that we may be able to comfort others as we are comforted by Him. So lift up your spirit to the Lord!
