It was 22 years ago when I arrived in Canada and chose Calgary, Alberta to be my home.  Leaving my family and friends behind, it was a new adventure for me to be in a new country without knowing anyone.  That was the time I looked for a Filipino community paper and never found any, [...]

The Other Side

The month of February is gone and we are now closer to spring and summer. The worst is over and other than a couple of months of snow but not too cold – we survived another Canadian winter. Congratulations!

Like most of us, you have most likely been confined to the indoors, sheltered from the elements, but we can now get out and start enjoying the beautiful, clean and safe country our Father in Heaven has provided for us. My wife Ludy and I go hiking year round but cut back a bit through the winter. Now, with our days longer we can get out and get our exercise and fresh air on week nights and weekends. Join us if you enjoy the outdoors and healthy living!

We were Blessed to be given the opportunity to attend and support three Typhoon Sendong Benefit Shows last month on behalf of Pinoy Times and a big Thank You! To Pinoy Times/Pinoy Radio and Harmony For Kids and Elderly Society for their work in putting these shows together. The Filipino Community of Calgary is to be commended for their response to the Sendong disaster and it could not have been done without the contributions of the many Volunteers, Sponsors, Performers and Attendees at these two events! The giving and Prayers continued into this month with a third Fundraising Variety Show held March 3 at Eastside City Church. May your lives be Blessed for your spirit of Charity and helping those who are in need!

Ludy also arrived home from a fun filled month visiting family and friends in the Philippines, full of energy, a suitcase loaded with goodies and a nice tan! She also completed all the requirements requested by the Philippine Government in sponsoring our daughter Stephanie in coming to Canada. Now we require the assistance of various MLA’s and MP’s to convince Alberta Social Services that there is no reason for them to try to block the Canadian Embassy in the Philippines from issuing the final document – Stephanie’s visa. Stay tuned next month for more updates! Also my personal apology to friends and family for snapping at them for asking questions on Stephanie’s Adoption/Sponsoring. After 7+ years, we are losing patience due to the unnecessary delays. Choosing a LIBERAL MLA was my mistake.

In closing I would like to remind you that in two weeks we will be celebrating Easter. Don’t mess your kids up with pagan ideas such as Bunny’s, Eggs and chocolate they don’t need. Show them that this is a time to showcase the love of our Lord, the One who has given us this great life on earth!

Steve
