Folks, do you know that when someone has an imbalanced hearing (either on the left or right ear) or total hearing loss, according to John Hopkins medical research, that person is most likely to have a history of fall. This is so because our hearing is connected to our footing. In the same manner, when we have poor spiritual hearing to God’s Word, it is more of a probability that we have poor spiritual footing. This is evident when we get too much busy in the world and have no more time spent on listening God’s Word. As its trickle effect, we are easily dissuaded by temptations and eventually fall into sin with our disobedience prompted by our poor hearing to God’s Word.
The Bible talks of the prophet Isaiah who finds wisdom and strength from God as he says, “The Sovereign LORD has given me his words of wisdom, so that I know what to say to all these weary ones. Morning by morning he wakens me and opens my understanding to his will. The Sovereign LORD has spoken to me, and I have listened. I do not rebel or turn away” (Isaiah 50:4-5). And the psalmist says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path” (Psalm 119:105). Indeed, it is when we hear and fill ourselves with God’s Word that we are able to share, lighten up the burdens of others who need emotional and spiritual strength.
Moreover, it is worth to mention that during the temptation hour of Jesus Christ after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was tempted by the devil to turn the stones into bread thus making a ‘short-cut’ of what his divine purpose on earth was. Jesus responded by saying to the tempter that, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God’” (Matthew 4:4). In a life filled with diverse trials, we need to be strong, and our strength does not fully come from education, health, wealth, prestige, influence, and the like. The strength that is enough to sustain us at all times comes from God alone as admonished and taught by His Word. God’s Word is essential as we are spiritual beings and not just physical. Let us then equip ourselves with His Word so that we may gain wisdom and live a successful life. As the Scripture says, “ Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful” (Joshua 1:8). Have a blessed and fruitful Bible reading!
