It was 22 years ago when I arrived in Canada and chose Calgary, Alberta to be my home. Leaving my family and friends behind, it was a new adventure for me to be in a new country without knowing anyone. That was the time I looked for a Filipino community paper and never found any, [...]

Lots of Filipinos all over in and out of Edmonton marked their calendars for the August 03, 2012 at The Venue of the Rivercree Casino for the performance of Bamboo, produced by Kee Productions. Pinoy Times was more than glad to cover this successful show as their only Media Partner for the evening. I must say the show was a major hit! Not only it brought some local Filipino band talents from Edmonton such as SAGA, Headcakes and Leah Gutlay as the opening acts but it also brought the young teens to young adults to adults together to listen to some OPM (Original Pilipino Music) and new songs that Bamboo has recently written and produced into a new CD. The camaraderie for local bands to do the front act for Bamboo was really great. The 4+ hour show was worth the price of the ticket, I can’t complain. The Venue at Rivercree Resort is the best place for a lot of Filipino shows just like Lea Salonga and Sharon Cuneta had their show as well as Aegis just a week before Bamboo.
Bamboo is such great performer with the rest of the local Filipino Edmonton band that played with him during his 2 hour show. During the time the band started setting up their equipment after the opening acts, everybody in the audience started cheering for him to come out. Once he got on stage, everybody wanted to come right at the front of the venue by the stage (which happened eventually) to sing with him, dance and jump around just like how it is during a rock concert and to get a closer look at what the Philippines recognized him as “Prince of Rock”. He played straight through the 2 hour show with some Rivermaya songs and his own songs as a Solo Artist. At the end of the show, he played a couple encores and thanked everyone who was able to come out that night to watch him perform. I was able to take a picture with backstage right after he performed other than the other pictures I took of him and the band during their performance. He had also signed autographs with anyone who had purchased his CD “No Water, No Moon”, released November 2011, which was sold out even before the show ended. I am more than satisfied with the show that night. It was such a blast and the audience really had a good time to see their idol, BAMBOO live in Edmonton.
Pinoy Times would like to thank Erick Tingzon and Thomas Ancheta and Kee Productions for inviting us to cover Bamboo’s very first time performance in Edmonton. We are looking forward to more shows to come from Kee Productions in the near future!
