On this issue, I’d like to share a wonderful story from the Bible, which speaks about how our Almighty God blesses abundantly:
“The wife of a man from the company of the prophets cried out to Elisha, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that he revered the Lord. But now his creditor is coming to take my two boys as his slaves.” Elisha replied to her, “How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?” “Your servant has nothing there at all,” she said, “except a small jar of olive oil.” Elisha said, “Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don’t ask for just a few. Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side.” She left him and shut the door behind her and her sons. They brought the jars to her and she kept pouring. When all the jars were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another one.” But he replied, “There is not a jar left.” Then the oil stopped flowing She went and told the man
of God, and he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debts. You and your sons can live on what is left.” (2 Kings 4:1-7, New International Version).
Here’s one astounding display of God’s power on how blessing is multiplied as a result of faith and obedience. The poor widow who approached Elisha, a man of God, for help. She was graciously granted a divine answer that prevented her two sons to be taken for slavery by the creditors, as was the custom in the olden days. Let’s take notice of how the prophet asked her, “What do you have in your house?” And she replied “a small jar of oil.” God uses a vehicle to ride on as instrument to pour out His blessings. You just have to take a close look in your life. She was then commanded to go around the neighborhood and asked for not just a few empty jars. It’s always beneficial to have a good relationship with neighbors as they could also be used to bless us during critical times. Without question, she responded in faith – the first step of obedience. That’s how we should respond to God’s Word, too, without wrestling in doubt. Then she was asked to pour the oil into all the jars. Funny yet amazing, the oil kept flowing until there was no jar left. A simple truth speaks that God’s blessings are not limited by what He can give but is limited by our capacity to receive. God’s bounty is always available to those who put their trust in Him as the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof. As blessings multiplied, the woman and her sons had enough to pay their debts and had extra to be able to live on. Are you in the midst of need, then pray to the Lord and believe in His grace, love and mercy!
