For Temporary Foreign Workers – hosted and supported by CCIS

A very interesting event unfolded on Saturday, the 2^nd of March at the Kerby Center in downtown Calgary. CCIS (Calgary Catholic Immigration Society) once again got together with Canada Immigration to hold an information session on How to Become a Permanent Resident in Canada.  This was geared towards all temporary foreign workers who are interested to maintain their stay in Canada with permanency.

The hall at Kerby Center was filled within a half hour as soon as it opened its doors at 8:30 AM.  There were participants from many different nationalities that abound in Calgary at the moment.  Filipinos were mostly the domineering race, but there were also people from Ukraine, China, Korea, Spain, France, Croatia, Poland, Africa, Venezuela, Mexico, Colombia, and Cuba.

The Federal Government’s Temporary Foreign Worker Program allows eligible foreign workers to work in Canada for an authorized period of time.  Three Departments – Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC), Service Canada and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) work together to manage and deliver the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP).

General information was discussed by representatives from the Canadian Immigration Services in order to answer the many questions that haunt these temporary workers.  The very many ways to become a permanent resident lurks around but the workers seem to be at a lost in determining what and what they can’t avail. The reasons for acceptance of an application and refusals or denials on the other hand was also explained and discussed in the simplest manner easy to understand by the workers.  Everybody wants to remain and become permanent residents.  But not all are given the opportunity as not all work positions are included in the permanent migration system.

The many facets of this immigration program for the temporary foreign workers were laid out on the table and it is totally up to each individual worker to assess whether their lines of work fall in any of this.  Professional help may also be available to those who require assistance but are forewarned to be extremely careful and identify the legitimacy of such agents and/or consulting firms.

As the hours progressed, I believed that many of the attendees were able to understand how the flowchart of work is done at the immigration level.  The reasons for delay and the seemingly forever and lengthy processing were given justice by the Office of the Immigration department.

This is another success for the people who man CCIS.  Applauds are given to the hard work of Jessica Juen, Magno Daria, Ana Ciaraldi, and Rene Dumont for a job well done.
