A new federal skilled trade program which aims to fill the demand for trades people in Canada while fast tracking the immigration process for certain skilled workers. Those who qualify for the program will be given permanent residency.
Immigration Minister Jason Kenney announced the Federal Skilled Trades Program on January 2, 2013 and begins accepting application as of this date. This skilled trade program is created to address serious labour shortages that some provinces are facing and will help grow Canada’s economy. However, CIC will accept no more than 3,000 complete applications for processing in the first year (from Jan 2, 2013 to Jan 1, 2014) to avoid backlogs and ensure fast processing times.
Within the 3,000 cap, no more than 100 new applications for certain jobs will be considered for processing each year. There is no sub-cap for other skilled trades. To be eligible, an applicant must plan to live outside of Quebec (note the province of Quebec chooses its own skilled workers); meet the required levels in English or French for each language ability (speaking, reading, listening, writing); at least two years of full time work experience (or an equal amount of part time work experience) in a skilled trade; meet all job requirements as set out in the National Occupation Classification; have an offer of full time employment of at least one year OR a certificate of qualification in that skilled trade issued by a provincial or territorial body.
The following are the list of Skilled Trade:
Group A – Jobs with sub-caps of 100 applications each (and their corresponding 2011 NOC code)
Group B – no sub-caps or Quota (2011 NOC code)
If you find your skills from the listing and would be interested to apply for the new FST Program, please send your resume for assessment and I can be able to help you.
