A TRIBUTE TO A MEDIA MAN AND A COMMUNITY LEADER FOR THE FILIPINOS, IN LOVING MEMORY OF JOSE “PEPITO” G. MAGPAYO
As part of the Filipino media of Alberta, Kuya Pepito has been known to many as one of the pioneers in the field of mass media here in Alberta. He has always been committed to do coverage of any Filipino community events and make sure that he’s programming is honest and transparent. His role as a media man will never be replaced by anyone who can project his fighting spirit in his media knowhow thru the years. Not only is Kuya Pepito a media man but also a mentor that some of the people who were under his wings before decided to go solo because they get to learn so much from him that they think they can be on the same level with him. But as I said, Kuya Pepito has his own charm and wit to capture the masses. He has been dearly loved by his colleagues and friends. Much more to this, his family has always been supportive of his profession. His loving wife, Ate Cecille has always been there to assist Kuya Pepito in every project that they have committed. His chidren were always there to lend a helping hand to Kuya Pepito. TV Filipino is his legacy and will live on to continue for as long as the Magpayos’ will be behind each and every telecast on OMNI TV.
From Kuya Pepito’s facebook account, here is a few words from OMNI Alberta -
It was a sad day! We lost one of our most hardworking independent producers and friend, Jose “Pepito” Magpayo. Pepito had been working with OMNI Calgary for the past 5 years. Every week, we talked to each other about his programming and how to make it better. It’s only for the past few weeks, that he was in hospital and I had hoped he could recover soon… I wished him Happy New Year!…Can’t believe he left us all of sudden…He was always punctual, gentle, and very very nice…Our heartfelt condolence to the whole Magpayo family. May he rest in peace!
Aside from being the producer of TV FILIPINO on OMNI TV, Kuya Pepito was also the associate editor of the Filipino Journal Alberta edition. Mr. Rod Cantiveros made mentioned on his article on the Manitoba Filipino Journal that being a trailblazer in the mass media, others will be inspired to follow his path, for a long time had not taken by anybody and to trace for your footprints of dedication and commitments.
I know that Kuya Pepito is now having a blast in heaven and will continue to be a legacy to the Filipinos of Alberta especially for those whose lives he has touched. I offer this prayer for Kuya Pepito and will always treasure all the advice that he has given me as the publisher of PINOY TIMES. May he rest in peace and be a guiding light to his family and dear friends.
