Pregnant Mariel Rodriguez to take time off from showbiz

TEMPORARY LEAVE. TV host Mariel Rodriguez announces she will be taking some time off her showbiz commitments for the good of her baby.

MANILA, Philippines – TV host Mariel Rodriguez said that she will take some time off from her showbiz commitments to rest during her pregnancy.

In an interview on Tonight with Boy Abunda, Thursday, August 4, Mariel said that she’s glad the staff of her two shows, Pinoy Big Brother and It’s Showtime, as well as the ABS-CBN management understood her delicate situation.

“I’ll always be grateful to my It’s Showtime family, to my PBB family, to ABS-CBN: Thank you so much. You don’t know how much it means to me na naiintindihan nila (they understand my situation). I’m fighting for my baby’s life so talagang karee-rin ko muna ito (going to concentrate on this),” she said.

Meanwhile, in an interview with PEP, Mariel said that she has been asked by her doctor, as well as her husband, Robin Padilla, to rest.

“Sabi niya, ‘Mahal, ‘pag natatakot ka, mahal, magpahinga ka muna. ‘Pag natatakot ka kasi, nagpapa-confine ka agad, mahal.’

(He said, ‘Love, if you’re afraid, rest first. Because if you’re afraid, you immediately have yourself confined in the hospital.)

“Praning ako, kaunting ganun (I tend to panic if), something is wrong,” she said.

When asked about when she would go back to work, Mariel said she is not yet sure.

She is currently 6 months pregnant and is expected to give birth at the end of the year.

Last May, Mariel confirmed that she and Robin are expecting a child, following two previous misccariages in 2015.

Mariel had her first miscarriage in March in 2015, followed by another one in August.

Aside from Mariel, her good friend and PBB co-host Toni Gonzaga, is also pregnant and waiting for the arrival of a baby boy.
