Hello dear readers,
There’s lots of happenings this month of June. First of all, congratulations to all the graduates this year! You have made a milestone in your life by getting your diplomas. But it doesn’t end there. You have to move on and continue on your next journey. For Kinder graduates, you move on to Grade 1 and for Grade 6 students, you move on to Junior High and for Grade 9 students, time to move on to Senior High and for Grade 12 students, time to move on to university. And for those who graduated from university, time to move on to the real world by finding a job fit for your degree. I’d say after 16 years of school, you finally made it! For those who made it more than 16 years to finish university or even had gone up to work on their Master’s, that’s an excellent job! For all your hard work, I’m sure that your parents are very proud of what you have accomplished and will accomplish further in life.
This coming June 12 is the 119th Philippine Independence day.One of the most significant dates in the Philippine’s history is June 12, 1898. It celebrates the nation’s independence from decades of Spanish rule. Philippine independence was formally proclaimed on June 12, 1898 with the reading of the Proclamation of Independence in Kawit, Cavite. The Proclamation was prepared and read by Ambrosio Rianzares Bautista and was signed by 98 delegates, including General Emilio Aguinaldo.
This year’s theme is “Kalayaan 2017: Pagbabagong Sama-Samang Balikatin.” This theme calls for UNITY. I’ve lived for 21 years in Calgary and this is one ting missing. It is very visible that the Filipino community is very much fragmented because everybody wants to be a leader. Everyone wants the ego trippping of taking control and not allowing others to participate. For as long as some of the members of the Filipino community has the power to monopolize the situation, we will never become one. I’m sure everyone has their opinion on this matter but they just keep it to themselves because even if they vent to some leaders of the community, it will just go to the backburner. Nevertheless, I would like to greet everyone a HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!
Last but not the least, we should not forget that on June 18 is Father’s day. This year, I will not only say a prayer to my father who has been in heaven for 47 years but also to my husband who joined our creator last February 2017. Even if Hank and I did not have children of our own, I have seen how good of a father he was to his three daughters and to his stepdaughters and stepson. It is not only with grief that he’s no longer here this Father’s day but this is the first year ever that I will celebrate my birthday without his presence. Again, I will miss his flower delivery for this special ocassion in my life. Father’s day is an important day to the special person in your lves who has been there since the day you were born and have watched you grow thru the year. Don’t forget to make him feel special on this day. HAPPY FATHER’S DAY TO ALL!
“When it comes to Father’s Day, I will remember my dad for both being there to nurture me and also for the times he gave me on my own to cultivate my own interests and to nurture my own spirit.”
