This morning when I woke up, I noticed that some leaves in our tree in the backyard are starting to turn yellow and I told myself, what an early sign. For sure we have our nice days numbered as Fall is soon approaching. I love the color of Fall because it feels so refreshing to see the trees with the golden yellow leaves. Although afterwards we have to clean up all the dry leaves that will fall from the trees. But I’d rather do that than shovel the snow.
It’s been barely five months that has passed and I still hope that one day, Hank, my departed husband, will be back again. But that is false hope since we know that when someone is physically gone in this earth, no one can bring him back to life. All I can do is to relive the good memories we had together and afterwards, put a smile on my face and say, “What would have been my life if I did not meet him to begin with when I came to Canada?” Nowadays, what makes me happy and at peace is when I water the yard and look at his rock garden in the front of our house and all the flowers that he had planted on just the same with what he did in the backyard. I love to see all his perennials are back especially his favorite, the shasta daisies. It is also amazing to see all the different varieties of lilies that he had planted in the backyard. The apple tree he planted 3 years ago in the front yard are now full of apples. It was last year I remember when he has been waiting for the apples but we only got a few. Now, all of a sudden there must be about 50 apples on the tree. I wonder if he has been keeping an eye on all of what he has in his garden that they are all back to life. I still feel the sadness from time to time but I know that Hank would want me to get back on my feet and go on with my life. But to be honest, it’s a pain and it sucks to lose the person you loved the most. The grieving will never end, but time will heal the pain and when that happens, life will be wonderful again.
