Publisher's Note
Dear Kababayans, I hope you are all doing well this April and are keeping safe and healthy during this trying time. Last month we saw businesses closing down and workers getting laid off because of the economic shutdown that was created by the Coronavirus Pandemic. This puts a lot of stress on people as bills just [...]

There are words that pop up on the screen of our mobile device that unintentionally sends a message across. I had a grand time building ideas around such random phrases. Grab a coffee, relax and read on.

“I’m not interested in your limiting beliefs; I’m interested in what makes you limitless.” ―Brendon Burchard
To rise to greater heights, a person must first let go of the things weighing him down. There are walls that keep people in; hence, they become inmates in their limiting beliefs. Sadly, how people are raised shape the way they perceive life. Afraid to take risks, they burrow deep in their comfort zones thinking that it will keep them safe. Limiting beliefs are egregious to potential. Nothing is more accommodating to change than an open mind, and for growth to happen, people must evolve. There are things that used to work in the past that are rendered obsolete, yet there are people who are persistent and who would desperately attempt to cling to them hoping that time will be compassionate toward their cause, but that almost never happens. Self-reinvention is a key to one’s survival in this digital age and how we behave is reflection of the beliefs we hold.

“There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.”
― Ernest Hemingway
There is always room for improvement. Life is made that way. If you want your life to get, you must recognize the importance of self-development, that would mean letting go of people, beliefs, or things that are holding you back. The past is a blueprint for the present to build the future. The key is growth, and where there is growth, opportunity will surely follow. Invest in yourself. Who needs a two-thousand-dollar suit, when they have a three-dollar IQ? Consider going to the gym, learning photography, study culinary arts, and so on. With so many lessons, you can implement them in making your life better. Aspire to become the best version of yourself and you will find a great sense of satisfaction once you have come through.

“Traveling – it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller.” – Ibn Battuta
This would sound like an awful infomercial. Do you find yourself staring at the wall despite your eyes getting heavy you blink infrequently? Are you in bed without the impetus of getting up anytime soon? Is the toxicity of work-related issues leaving you with a downturned mouth and saggy posture? Then you might be suffering from lack of trying to live a little. We get caught up with the fast-paced life here in Canada, and unlike the Philippines where it’s somewhat laid back, we find ourselves aging at an accelerated pace. Explicably, we grind it out to make ends meet. However, one doesn’t need to be a doctor to understand that stress is harmful and sugar-powered energy drinks is barely keeping us up. It’s not enough to nestle ourselves on an easy chair and binge-watch Game of Thrones or Walking Dead just to maintain our sanity in life. A change in setting would be good for our soul, so pack your bags.
Travelling is an empowering experience to uplift the spirit. Veering away from the ordinary, there are uncharted regions that have yet to be explored by none other than you. What better way to satiate your wanderlust than to get lost and stumble upon stunning places? Learn history in local museums. Fascinate yourself over captivating masterpieces at an art gallery. Treat yourself to a delectable cuisine that you have never tried. Dance away to the music of life. The possibilities are endless, so go crazy.

“I’m just going to go live life. I’m going to go enjoy life. I have nothing left to hide. I am kind of a free person, a free soul.” ―Caitlyn Jenner
So many choices; so little time—the narrator in your head is stuck in a loop as you browse the content of your life. As people, we are constantly inundated by things in our lives. Whether it is financial problem or …well, mostly financial problems, we are so immersed in the issue that we are saturated with worrying consequently missing out on the fantastic moments that are flashing us by. On my way home as I was driving down Memorial drive one night, out of impetus, I pulled over just to marvel at the city lights, and as I got back in my truck, the looks of why-is-my-crazy-dad-pulling-over on my kids’ face caught my attention, I realized then I was speeding through this life and they were growing up before my very eyes and soon, they will be on their way too and we won’t be able to hang out as much as we are now doing. We invest so much of our time in trying to live, rather then actually living. If not at the moment, then we must try. Taking it slow and easy at times help us appreciate the goodness packed in fleeting moments, some just live long enough to retire; some—harshly—are already dead inside and most are too busy to even notice.
You Have a Friend Request
If our hearts were our emails, they would be cluttered with spam mails. Having a life-long companion other than our family makes our lives meaningful. We sometimes close our doors to other people, and we tend to keep only those who are dear to us, but sometimes, if one keeps building bridges long enough, he will discover the joy of a world with less strangers, and at times a new best friend will come bring a new perspective in his life would be the change that one needs. Believe it or not, there many lonely people out there who are unable to build relationships. Friendship is the best gift that anyone can give a stranger.

Ironically, in an age when are supposedly connected, we are more divided than ever. We are in an age where we are faced with myriad challenges, and in spite of our ingenuity, our reality is presented in disconcerting clarity. Uncertainty is at an all time high and a bleak path ahead is foreshadowed by the current issues plaguing our society. Life is too short to be miserable all the time. Of the countless delightful blessings we get, we are inclined to dwelling in our problems and we have the proclivity to even delve deeper. At some point we have to stop worrying and forgive ourselves that are beyond our control and before you go on cursing the day; somewhere, someone is praying to get one more. Live to the fullest that’s all we can truly do and leave the rest to God. Happy May everyone.
