Today The City’s Youth Employment Centre (YEC) will give 150 Calgarians, ages 16 to 24, an opportunity to connect with leading employers. CERT Logistics, Cintas, Fairmont Palliser, Hyatt Regency, Sheraton Suites Calgary Eau Claire, TELUS, The Source and Walmart will be conducting pre-scheduled job interviews throughout the day. This opportunity is held in partnership with Opportunity for All Youth, a national employer-led coalition focused on getting Canadian NEET (not in education, employment or training) youth into jobs. The first Calgary hiring event was held in 2018. Since the launch YEC has continued to host hiring events with its employer partners, contributing to the initiative’s five-year goal of providing meaningful employment to 40,000 Canadian youth.

“The YEC connects young Calgarians with employers looking to offer experience, life skills and opportunity,” says Mayor Naheed Nenshi. “I hope today’s participants look back on today as a great first step to a fulfilling career.”

YEC is open year-round and will continue to contribute to the national effort after today’s event, by preparing Calgary youth with building skills to enter the workforce. The City of Calgary is a proud partner in Calgary’s poverty reduction strategy – Enough for All. We are committed to creating an inclusive city where everyone has the ability to participate in community life, regardless of income. The Opportunity for All Youth hiring event is one way The City is supporting financial wellbeing for young Calgarians.
