CONCERT IN REVIEW – AS1 IN CALGARY by CK

CONCERT IN REVIEW – AS1 IN CALGARY by CK thumbnail

Gary Valenciano + Martin Nievera = AS1, the ultimate concert of the year.  No doubt, Ellen Sarmiento and Espie Garcia of  PURE TALENTS  has brought  Filipinos in Calgary an  superb and excellent show that has given the audience 101% of entertainment.   In 2006 , Martin Nievera did a concert on his own and so did Gary Valenciano.  And after 3 years, here comes the duo for an ultimate showdown.  Everyone was amazed with the showmanship of the Concert King and Mr. Pure Eenergy.  No wonder, the Jubilee Auditorium was filled up with audience from all ages, young, old, seniors and juniors to listen to their music and witness this one of a lifetime concert.  After their 8th episode in Edmonton, Calgary here they come.  As for what I have witnessed last night, no doubt that Martin Nievera still holds to his title to date, Mr. Concert King and the same goes with Gary Valenciano, Mr. Pure Energy.  I never got the chance to get close to the artists but I was happy that I was there and watched and enjoyed their evening of songs and performance.  Singing songs from the telenovela, Gary doing a Michael Jackson number and in the later part of the show, songs by Earth, Wind and Fire definitely shows the versatility of these guys.  They can sing to their hearts desire and we will be there to listen to them.  Here are some feedbacks from some of the audience last night and I’m sure that everyone will agree to what they have to say:

The concert was awesome! By far the best Filipino concert in Calgary.  Everyone, young and old and in between, and even non-Filipinos, had a great time. You could feel the energy, wit, and enthusiasm of Gary and Martin spilling out to the jam-packed crowd. I was laughing and singing along with them most of the time. There were also the tearful moments that reminded us how lucky we were to be in Canada where natural calamities are rare or otherwise unheard of. Filipinos stick together through good times and bad. We smile our way through everything in life.

It was a classy concert. One of the best Filipino shows brought to Calgary. The combination of Gary & Martin is perfect because their style & personality are very differrent in many aspects.  Gary, the serious one ,  is always on the move when on stage.  Martin is wacky, witty and funny but his music is on the conservative side because his voice is so powerful when he sings ballads. Every one who watched the concert got their money’s worth !

-Andy Yambao

We seldom watch these kind of concerts where in two talented and gifted artists performed together. I have so much joy, laughter and excitement.  I was so blessed on the boldness of Gary in sharing us his life blessings from God. Truly that God is the only giver of his life and the only one who prolonged his life as well. I am so grateful for his life that he uses it to encourage people who needs hope and encouragement. I am glad I came to the show at the last minute. It was well organized and well time spent

To Gary and Martin you did an awesome show! Mabuhay to both of you

The performace is really superb. Gary & Martin complemented each other’s talent. Theres’ quite a synergistic effect when they perform on stage. I appreciate how Martin rendered a few of  Streissand’s musical themes, Also being very comic  covers his lack in dancing.  Gary, on the other hand really touched  so many hearts revealing his vulnerability to the audience  and whole heartedly sang all the inspirational songs. Despite of his present health situation, he tried his best not to cancel his last 2 performances.

As a whole, very enjoyable, lots of heart and truly toatal performance. Worth the money!

I believe that the show was the ultimate one. Martin and Gary were rivals during my time and having them perform together this time was a truly awesome and a worthwhile show. It was breathtaking and my husband and I enjoyed every minute of it.
