It was 22 years ago when I arrived in Canada and chose Calgary, Alberta to be my home.  Leaving my family and friends behind, it was a new adventure for me to be in a new country without knowing anyone.  That was the time I looked for a Filipino community paper and never found any, [...]

FEATURED FILIPINO CALGARIAN – MR. ERNIE BADAJOS

FEATURED FILIPINO CALGARIAN – MR. ERNIE BADAJOS thumbnail

The man behind the All-Filipino Knights of Columbus San Lorenzo Council

I am finding it hard to find special personalities who are worth featuring  in our Community paper even though we do have quite a number of “kababayans” out there who are truly deserving to be commended and thanked for their  special community work that they dedicate in the service of the Filipino people. But in such short notice, I was able to convince the current Grand Knight of the San Lorenzo Ruiz Council of the Knights of Columbus to agree with me and putting him as the center of our attention in this month’s Featured Filipino-Calgarian.  I have featured this group in our previous issue, but now, I got to understand more the identity of the man behind the hard task of grouping together an all-Filipino Council.

Ernie Badajos came to Calgary from the U.S.A. in 2005 in search of a dream.  Ernie and his brood lived in the USA for 15 years and yet never got to finalize their “green card” (permanent residence) status. Thus, pushing their luck, attempted to try it out in its neighboring country, Canada.  And truly, good luck was on their side as they were awarded to live with permanency here in Canada. A BS Mechanical Engineering graduate, Ernie is a well-respected Engineer who practiced his trade for over 30 years. He also pursued special studies in famous Universities like Ateneo, De La Salle, Universtity of Santo Thomas and University of the Philippines.

What are inherent in this man are his leadership skills and his strong belief in the Catholic Faith. He held numerous positions from President, Vice-President , Counselor and Advisor.  His knowledge, skills, and capability to lead, earned him several professional positions in countries such as KSA and Australia. His faith in God gave him the strength to become a righteous leader in all aspects.

Currently, Ernie has 3 active programs under his leadership in coordination with the Knights of Columbus San Lorenzo Ruiz Council 14746.

1.  The Block Rosary   – A continuous project for 52 families in which the Holy Image is transferred by the rosary group at the end of 7 days.   It encourages a strong family bond through praying of the rosary nightly for 7 days while the images remain in the household.  In effect, the Block Rosary is engaged in a “reaching out” project to create a strong community foundation.
2.  Vocation Awareness Graphic Contest  -  A project targeted and designed for grades 4 – 6 students to awaken their young minds to the possibility of being involved in Holy Order life in the future.
3.  Faith Community Revitalization -  A project designed for kindergarten to Grade 6 students encouraging their parents, brothers, sisters, relatives, neighbors and friends to attend church as much as possible.

With these activities that he leads on, Ernie can truly be considered a respectable personality to be placed on a pedestal – even for just this time, so that our countrymen may be able to know and realize, there is a God-Fearing  Filipino out there who truly deserves our respect and salute.  Thank God for having you around Mr. Ernie Badajos.
