It was 22 years ago when I arrived in Canada and chose Calgary, Alberta to be my home.  Leaving my family and friends behind, it was a new adventure for me to be in a new country without knowing anyone.  That was the time I looked for a Filipino community paper and never found any, [...]

2011 Christmas Party by the CCIS

2011 Christmas Party by the CCIS thumbnail

Congratulations to the Successful Christmas Party of the Calgary Catholic Immigration Society Temporary Foreign Worker Support Services held at the Calgary Centre for Spiritual Living. Our very own “kababayan” Mr. Magno Daria and his colleague Ms. Patricia Owens hosted a Christmas Party that honors the men and women of the Alberta workforce who are either here for Temporary Work or have recently been awarded Permanent Residences. They truly deserve applaud for being able to bring out the best from these sector.  The talent show was a blast of entertainment that added the sweet spice to any gathering of such nature. There were lots of prizes raffled for the benefit of these modern heroes and everyone came with a naïve smile but then left with a super glee on their faces.  The afternoon party which were attended by people from different places stemming from Mexico, to Sri Lanka, and to the Philippines to name a few, broke the silence of chilly cold wintery day. The laughter that enveloped the corners of the venue was simple unsurpassable.  Thanks to the kindness of iRemit Money Remittance too.  They came with a short notice and brought in a big roast pork (lechon) for all the different nationalities to enjoy.  Truly, the sign of giving is in the air.  The hard work  and dedication of the Program Supporters at CCIS never fails to bring together people from all walks of life.  There is Christ in Christmas. The love for people no matter what and where they came from solidifies as one in spirit especially in the midst of cultural differences.  Kudos to you CCIS. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year too!
