It was 22 years ago when I arrived in Canada and chose Calgary, Alberta to be my home.  Leaving my family and friends behind, it was a new adventure for me to be in a new country without knowing anyone.  That was the time I looked for a Filipino community paper and never found any, [...]

Welcome! Genesis Centre of Community Wellness & Saddletowne YMCA

By Tata “Tatsky” Gascon-Delos Reyes

(Excerpts courtesy of NECCS & ymcacalgary.org info brochures)

I have personally attended the openings of the YMCA and Genesis Centre in January 2012.  I am delighted that this new facilities alongside with the new Calgary Public Library are now in existence to help in facilitating better future for our youth both in their physical attributes and mental development.  The diversity of people that live in the Northeast was a big factor for this concept to be materialized. The unification of everybody in this City is very important for the success of the local government to promote safe environment and actively healthy neighborhoods.

“Be Healthy Live Better” – YMCA of Calgary’s campaign to attract new memberships in this new facility. While YMCA has served our communities for more than 109 years, this is still the place where people of all ages, abilities, and fitness levels are welcome.  Here you will have fun, welcome new people, feel supported in your health goals, learn new skills and explore interests.  You will also improve overall health,, make positive lifestyle choices, and become truly involved.

For passes, general memberships, and admissions to Saddletowne YMCA, please call 403-237-2393

“Your Field of Play!” – GENESIS CENTRE’s inviting advertisement definitely captures everyone’s attention on what is in the Centre for us to see. Facility Rentals include two indoor field houses which has the capability of hosting not only sport, but also special events such as trade shows and cultural festivals.  Possible sport uses are soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, arena football etc. The oversized dividable gymnasium has a pulastic flooring and a whopping 10,000 sq. feet of space that could accommodate a variety of sport and special event applications. The multi-purpose room is a flexible space capable of hosting everything from meetings to fitness programming and is dividable into two sections (each almost 2,000 sq. feet).  There are three meeting rooms configured in different sizes for group or corporate needs.
