GlobalFest Unveils Big News for August Festival

(Calgary, AB)

GlobalFest  – Alberta’s Most Explosive Festival ™ unveiled big news at their “Social”& Fundraiser last Thursday night about their 10th Anniversary Celebration taking place this summer (August 16-26).Over 300 guests packed the Hotel Blackfoot in honour of what many are considering GlobalFest’s biggest and best year of programming to date; some of the news announced by the organization included:

The official look and style of GlobalFest’s new website (globalfest.ca) and advertising materials (courtesy of AlmostCreative and Beni Johnson Media Inc.)
A new Urban Arts Stage and four-tipi Aboriginal Village in the GlobalFest OneWorld Festival
In partnership with Bow Valley College and TD, former Prime Minister Paul Martin will be headlining GlobalFest’s Human Rights Forum Breakfast to speak on his Martin Aborginal Education Initiative
GlobalFest’s new Fireworks Director, Patrick Brault (most recently known for designing the pyrotechnics of the 2010 Winter Olympics Opening & Closing Ceremonies in Vancouver) announced that there will be six nights of fireworks this year for the Trico Homes International Fireworks Festival
Participating countries include:
Phillipines (Platinum Fireworks Inc.) – Aug 16
Mexico (Lux Pirotecnia) – Aug 18
China (Vulcan Display Fireworks Ltd.) – Aug 20
Brazil (Vision Show Group) – Aug 22
USA (Pyrotecnico) – Aug 24
Finale (Patrick Brault – GlobalFest & Sirius Pyrotechnics)  – Aug 26
The compulsory pyromusical piece required for each country to incorporate into their nightly presentation will be “Thunder” from the Cirque Du Soleil show “Totem”, scheduled to be visiting Calgary in 2013
GlobalFest Producer, Ken Goosen, revealed that this year’s Finale Celebration will be the biggest in the organization’s 10-year history:
Plans are in place to have the Calmeca Dancers Society perform for the first time ever at GlobalFest with a live mariachi band
Calgary’s premeire Ukrainian dance group,  Tryzub Ukrainian Dance Ensemble,  will perform with live accompaniment from a 20-piece string ensemble courtesy of Kensington Sinfonia
The Finale fireworks presentation will also have the Kensington Sinfonia along with over 70 bagpipers play “Amazing Grace” to conclude GlobalFest 2012’s festivities

GlobalFest made every effort possible to ensure that this year will be the organization’s biggest and grandest year of programming. To celebrate the occasion, GlobalFest occupied the main floor of the newly rebranded Hotel Blackfoot with music, refreshments, raffles, as well as a silent and live auction taking place throughout the course of the evening. The Media Launch even included a single bagpiper and a small fireworks salute from the hotel rooftop to give the audience a taste of what is to come this summer.

The mission of GlobalFest is to produce for the people of Calgary and visitors to our City, a world-class, multi-cultural festival and international fireworks competition that will offer the viewing public an affordable and accessible multi-faceted cultural experience. It is the intention of GlobalFest to use this platform to generate cultural awareness of and significant funding for local community groups as well as foster economic development in East Calgary and beyond.
