PINOY TO ANO’NG SAY MO?

by:  Tata “Tatsky” Gascon-Delos Reyes

Good or bad?

On The use of Tagalog, your own language, in a foreign land.

Michelle Aguilar  -  Calgary, AB

“For me its good. Only if everyone speaks the same language. But if not, I think it is unethical. Some people may think that your talking about them even if your not”.

Katherine Ramirez – Calgary, AB

“Ok lng po mgsalita ng ating language kung lahat po eh Pilipino kaharap natin.  Pero kung may ibang lahi, siguro po magsalita po tayo ng English”.

Chris De Guzman – Calgary, AB

“If Filipinos are talking with other foreigners, we need to talk in English to respect and for them to be part of what the topic is all about. If two Filipinos are talking with each other in a public place, and just talking about themselves, then it is okay to speak our native language. It is so stupid if two Filipinos who speak tagalog and talking in English just to show that they speak English even though you are in a different country. The fact is, we are trapped in what so called “taglish” where we even talk to foreigners, sometimes nadudulas pa rin and dila natin na mag tagalog. Minsan naman we speak English even when we are talking with kapwa Pinoy”.

Josephine Molina – Calgary, AB

“It depends kung sinong crowd.. kase here, kahit mga Pinoy they speak English pa rin depende kung ano job nila especially yung mga degree holder.. sometimes, kailangan ka pa rin mag tagalog pero syempre .. You are so used to na sa English. Hindi ka naman pwede mag tagalog kung may puti cuz its very rude”.
