Five of the Philippine’s hottest male heartthrobs brought the heat at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium in Calgary on October 27, 2013. The variety show dubbed as the “Teleserye Bida 2013 North American Tour” consisted of ABS-CBN Kapamilya stars Gerald Anderson, Enchong Dee, Rayver Cruz, Xian Lim and Enrique Gil, along with comedian John Lapus. The show in Calgary was the last leg in their tour in Canada, after performing in Vancouver and Winnipeg.

These five male artists are Philippines’ lead actors in the top-rated teleseryes shown around the globe through The Filipino Channel (TFC). They have received several awards in recognition of their talents and have built a huge fan base both locally and internationally.

The show’s opening acts were song numbers from Calgary’s very own Mary Kate Aquino, Teresa Puri and Chelsea Ruy. They warmed up the crowd for the next performance by veteran comedian John “Sweet” Lapus. John entered the stage dressed up as award-winning actress and host Kris Aquino and sent the audience into bursts of laughter as he imitated the mannerisms of the Queen of All Media. Screams from the crowd, consisting mostly of women from all ages, erupted as all five Teleserya Bida stars walked on stage and sang a rendition of One Direction’s “One Way or Another”. Each artist wooed and interacted with the fans through their song and dance performances, with a few lucky ladies brought on stage to be serenaded.

Rayver Cruz was the first to perform among the Teleserye Bidas, showcasing his talent as he sang and danced to Justin Timberlake’s popular songs Mirror and Señorita. Rayver launched his career as a child actor and eventually landed his first lead role in the TV series “Spirits” as Red with co-star Maja Salvador. He appears regularly in the noontime variety show ASAP 18 and is currently starring in the hit primetime teleserye “Bukas Na Lang Kita Mamahalin”.

Enrique Gil, who is known for his roles as BJ in the teleserye “Budoy” and Prince Jao/Dasho Jao in “Princess and I”, is not only an actor, but also a dancer and recording artist. During the show, he danced to PSY’s international hit “Gentleman” and performed his own single “OHA! (Kaya Mo Ba To)” from his debut dance album “King of the Gil”. He top-billed the teleserye Muling Buksan Ang Puso with Enchong Dee and Julia Montes and recently starred in the movie She’s The One, alongside Bea Alonzo and Dingdong Dantes.

Next up was actor, model and national swimmer Enchong Dee, who sang One Direction’s “Best Song Ever” and performed a dance number. He thanked the Calgary crowd for the opportunity to celebrate his upcoming birthday (November 5th) with his “family abroad”—that is, his fans. Enchong starred in the TV adaptation of the film “Katorse” and the recently concluded teleserye “Ina, Kapatid, Anak”. He is currently one of the lead stars in Muling Buksan Ang Puso.

“Bakit Hindi Ka Crush ng Crush Mo” star Xian Lim was set to perform next. He opened his act with his own version of “Locked Out of Heaven”. He then sang “Magkabilang Mundo” which he always perform with his onscreen and offscreen partner Kim Chiu. Xian rose to fame when he was cast in the teleserye “Katorse”, with Erich Gonzales and Enchong Dee. He was also part of the number one primetime series “Ina, Kapatid, Anak”.  Xian is currently busy promoting his platinum self-titled album and is set to film a new teleserye with Kim Chiu.

Last to perform was multi-awarded actor, Gerald Anderson, who sang “Live While We’re Young”. He then swooned and serenaded one of the fans with his rendition of Marry Your Daughter. He gave the lucky fan a bouquet of flowers and went down on his knee to give a ring, as if he was proposing. Gerald was a former housemate in the reality TV show Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition and has appeared in several top teleseryes such as Sana Maulit Muli, My Girl and Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo. He is presently starring in the TV drama called Bukas Na Lang Kita Mamahalin.

For the finale, the five Teleserye heartthrobs, along with John Lapus, randomly gave out roses and small pillows to their fans, while singing a medley of Bamboo and Eraserhead songs. Despite the cold weather, they thanked the Filipino fans in the auditorium for their warm welcome. The group concluded the Teleserye Bida North American tour in Los Angeles, California on November 2nd.
