It was 22 years ago when I arrived in Canada and chose Calgary, Alberta to be my home.  Leaving my family and friends behind, it was a new adventure for me to be in a new country without knowing anyone.  That was the time I looked for a Filipino community paper and never found any, [...]

The Other Side

Another glorious month has passed and we continue to inch our way towards spring and hopefully summer. With about six months of winter in Calgary that’s still no reason to stop living your life. Outdoor activities can still take place whenever we get warm days.

This month my wife Ludy and I enjoyed the 1st Anniversary of the New Life in Christ International Ministries. When we arrived, no surprise, I was asked by a friend to record the party through pictures and video. The performers, volunteers, families and friends thoroughly put on a fun night and I thank God for providing me with the talent and ambition to share with them.

We also got a break in the winter weather and went on a day trip to Crawling Valley Reservoir and Bassano Dam. A story and photos can be found elsewhere in this issue of Pinoy Times.

In addition to our Bowling league, I joined a Horseshoe Club and a Dart League this month. All three are part of various Senior’s groups and although my wife and I don’t consider ourselves Seniors yet, our Birth Certificates say we are. We have noticed that the many Filipino Seniors Associations have interesting and fun activities, yet they are not very physical – like parties, pageants, eating and talking. Not ready to slow down yet, we prefer to stay active for our physical and mental health. I encourage you to join a group that promotes these types of healthy activities today!

Until next month, here’s hoping you can make the most of each day. You life is what you make of it, that’s the beauty of living in Canada – don’t waste the opportunity!

Steve Tarzwell
