MULTI-Grammy Award-winning singer Michael Bublé honored his grandfather’s last wish by turning over his home in Vancouver, Canada, to his longtime Filipina caregiver Minette.

In an episode of the HGTV show “Celebrity IOU,” the international star behind the hit songs “Feeling Good,” “Haven’t Met You” and “Home” said Minette took good care of his grandfather Demetrio for eight long years and became just as much a family member as anyone.

“I came from the Philippines, working as a community health worker, then I got hired by Michael’s family to look after grandma and grandpa at the same time,” Minette revealed on the program.

To give back to the very valued lady, Bublé surprised Minette by giving the house his grandfather built 50 years ago and modernized it into a lively, contemporary space where she can live with her family instead of renting as they have always done.

“I hired Minette, the nurse, to come and live with him and by the end, (she) was his best friend,” Bublé told hosts Jonathan and Drew Scott, better known as the Property Brothers.

“I think my grandpa would be thrilled knowing that we could maybe lessen the burden a little bit in allowing Minette to continue helping her family without it being so hard on her,” he shared.

For the surprise the hosts and Bublé tricked Minette into believing they were just shooting a documentary about his grandfather. As he turned over the house, Bublé told Minette “My grandfather, his greatest wish was not just that I kept this house in the family, but it was that this would be your home cause he loved you so much and so there is no documentary [and] this is all for you.”

The Filipina instantly broke into tears, emotionally saying, “Grandpa thank you so much. It is so much, really, really so much. I have no words right now. It hasn’t sunk in yet. It’s beautiful, beautiful.”

The singer recalled in the show that Minette had been sending all the money she makes to her family back home in the Philippines.

“Minette doesn’t keep any of the money that she makes. She’s got a lot of family in the Philippines and she takes that money and she sends it all back,” Bublé said.

“Minette is this really compassionate, kind, empathetic human being with a great sense of humor, a great zest for life, who never did anything for herself. She became family almost instantly. I can only imagine what it’s going to mean to her,” he added.

Emotions were high when they toured the renovated home, especially when they reached the family room area where nostalgia truly struck.

“[Grandpa and I] would hold hands and he would sing,” Minette recalled as they stood in the family room. “He started singing ‘When I Fall In Love,’ that’s the last song we were singing in here. I had a dream that grandpa and I were just sitting, holding hands. He has that smile, I think he’s just saying that he’s okay.”

At the end of the episode, Bublé said, “The legacy of family and kindness and goodness continues, and I think that’s what my grandpa was about. That will be his legacy and I love that she gets to be part of continuing of that emotion going forward.”
