The City of Calgary 2010 Assessment

The City of Calgary Assessment business unit is committed to providing quality service to the citizens of Calgary.  Each year, the Assessment business unit prepares assessments for properties and businesses in Calgary.  These assessments are used as the basis for determining property and business taxes.  Property and business taxes are the primary source of funding for services provided by The City of Calgary.  Preparing assessments on an annual basis helps the City of Calgary keep up with changing market conditions and minimize fluctuations in property and business taxes.

This year’s assessment notices were mailed on January 4, 2010 to more than 460,000 Calgary taxpayers.  The assessed values reflect the market value of property, and typical net annual rental value of business space, as of July 1, 2009.  January 4, 2010 also marked the beginning of the 2010 Customer Review Period which provides customers with the opportunity to review and ensure the accuracy of their property and /or business assessment and learn more about how their assessment was determined.  During the Customer Review Period, customers are encouraged to review their assessment to determine if the market value of their property, or typical net annual rental value of their business space, is a reasonable estimate as of July 1, 2009 and if the factual details associated with their assessment are correct.  Customers can access a variety of tools and resources online at www.calgary.ca/assessment to help them understand and review their assessment.

If necessary, customers can contact the Assessment business unit during the Customer Review Period to inquire further about how their 2010 assessment was prepared.  The 2010 Customer Review Period runs from January 4 to March 5, 2010.
