HAITI ARISE – A Night of Free Concert

HAITI ARISE – A Night of Free Concert thumbnail

By:  Estrella “Tata” Delos Reyes

A free concert was held on Sunday night February 7, 2010 at the Eastside City Church.  This event was  organized by the Partners in Christ Fellowship  (PICF) headed by Bong Magpantay.  With the help of  Kamilla Prasad, they thought of offering a night of music and praises as their way of showing to the entire Calgary Community that they are very much aware of what is happening around the globe.    It aimed to raise funds to help rebuild Haiti.  We all know what this tiny island went through when Mother Nature struck them with a quake destroying hundreds of lives, and thousands of livelihood which left its people facing aggravated poverty.

The Haiti Arise was founded in 2000 with the purpose of working to meet the need for change in Haiti.  A faith-based humanitarian organization located in the semi rural outskirts of Grand Goave in the southwest of the island.  When the disastrous earthquake shocked the island , the organization began receiving outpouring and enormous support to help in its rehabilitation by working with other faith-based organization and religious fellowships all over the world.

The Partners in Christ Fellowship was not the only one who offered to do this free concert.  Several other fellowships and churches such as East Indian Christian Fellowship, Christ is Coming Church, Calgary Mosaic Church, U Turn Project, Peace Chapel Church, Rock Pointe Church, and The Way Missions Christian were also there to render entertainment in order to bring about people to come and join hands together in the same purpose of helping and bringing hope to Haiti.

It is not only Filipinos who were around.  I also saw other nations and multi- cultural background at the event.  This shows how diverse Calgary is. This kind of service that is over and truly beyond our call of duty as Christians, are the strength and backbone of a successful fellowship.  The people are out there looking after one another. Congratulations Mr. Magpantay….You are truly one deserving Filipino –Calgarian worthy of Pinoy Times’ salute.
